We recently booked a spur of the moment trip to the west coast. Having never been to the San Diego area before I asked friends where we should spend time. Someone mentioned Coronado and I am so glad we listened. While our friends had stayed at the Loew's resort which is on a slightly different part of the island I wanted to stay near the cute downtown area I had read about. Using Trip Advisor I found the Glorietta Bay Inn and I am now in love! This hotel was perfect - from check in to check out they could not have been more helpful. We booked through the hotel website where they were offering an "Internet special" and stayed two nights. The location was excellent, so close to downtown for eating and shopping and across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado where you can use the beach and visit this old hotel. The staff was friendly and recommended places for eating and visiting. The hotel and grounds were spotless and we constantly saw people sprucing up and taking care of things. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast each morning where plenty of choices are offered to start your day and cookies and lemonade are put out in the afternoon. They have a small pool and hot tub that are lovely with plenty of loungers and towels for lending (large, soft towels) and will even lend you beach gear at the front desk.
We stayed in a queen deluxe which had a first floor balcony overlooking the bay. The room wasn't huge but there was plenty of space to move about and the room had a flat screen TV and fridge which is always an added bonus. The closet was large and there was also a small dresser with drawer space along with a small table and two chairs. The bathroom was set up with the sink separate from the toilet and shower which I enjoy because it allows you more than one person to get ready at a time. The bed was comfy, clean linens, soft towels and a full length mirror which is getting harder to find in hotel rooms. Everything in the room was clean and updated. I had made a note when making my reservation that this trip was a surprise birthday gift for my boyfriend and a bottle of wine and note were in our room when we arrived-such a nice touch and done without my knowledge by the hotel.
Two days was not long enough, I can't wait to go back! We met several families who have been coming for years and its obvious why. This is a wonderful small hotel that made you feel welcomed. When it was time to check out for our downtown San Diego hotel I didn't want to leave.
