My husband and I took the hop-on, hop-off trolley tour on our recent trip to San Diego. We hopped off on Coronado Island and walked over to the hotel. We checked out the hotel and beach and decided to splurge on lunch there. It was pricey, but you get what you pay for, plus lunch is a good value. My husband had the brisket sandwich and I had a lamb slider and a fancy yummy salad with a truffle oil infused dressing. The meal was outstanding and the atmosphere was very very nice.

The service is wonderful. My wife wanted items not exactly on the menu and the waiter and chef obliged. My sea bass was superb. The views were great, the wine was great and the prices about normal for a hotel location. It was a great way to start our trip.

We came here for lunch with friends. Among the four of us, I had a delicious cioppino, two friends had the blue crab cake BLT which they said was good, and one had the white cheddar burger (also good). Everyone enjoyed their meal. When we made the reservations, they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and we said we were celebrating a birthday. However, the birthday was not acknowledged by the restaurant in any manner. Why ask if you're not going to do anything?

In 2012 my family stayed in a hotel or resort for 104 nights and traveled all the way from coast to coast and across the ocean on the Queen Mary to England, Germany, and Austria. We ate in countless restaurants, some of them very fancy, including those on the ship itself. But the Sheerwater in Coronado at the Del takes the prize for the very best of the best. Atmosphere, service, ambiance, weather, and the quality of the food came together to create a rare near perfect experience which everybody in my family raves about to this day. We sat outside on the verandah with a view of the beach featured in the Marylin Monroe film Some LIke It Hot. It was sunny and warm. The waiter was courteous and swift and the fish we had for lunch was the most succulent we'd enjoyed in years. We lingered as long as we could to capture the moment and took pictures. We even took out a doggie bag for our Labrador Retriever.

We had a delicious dinner at Sheerwater. Our waiter was exceptional and deftly managed several parties of "problem" diners sitting adjacent to out table. Although the restaurant is beachfront, the view was blocked by a seasonal ice rink. We did have a table by the window, but even the sunset view was distorted by the heavy plastic sheeting hung to shelter the patio against the January chill. Very very pricy dinner for a view of the ice rink. It's probably lovely on the patio in the summer.....
