“Hidden gem”

Finding a quiet restaurant can be a challenge during the peak of tourist season in Coronado, California. Miguelitos is operated by the Brigantine Restaurant Group, which owns the popular seafood restaurant on Orange Avenue, as well as Miguel's Cocina next door, which specializes in Mexican food. Miguelitos shares the same kitchen with Miguel's as well as a portion of its menu. It's strong point, for us at least, is the fact that it is located off of the main drag and provides sidewalk seating under shade trees. You can leisurely enjoy your meal (as well as excellent margaritas) without being crowded or hurried along. The fish tacos are excellent and the daily specials are always interesting.

“Par to Sub-Par Mexican Food, Somewhat Interesting Atmosphere”
Reviewed March 16, 2011

We went to Miguelitos in Coronado for dinner on our vacation. We arrived at the place early (around 4:45 pm) for dinner and they still had happy hour specials. They have beers for around $3, wines for $5-6 and margaritas for $4.75 from 3pm-5pm. I opted out of the happy hour specials and just ordered dinner.

The service was fairly prompt, considering we were the only ones there. They brought chips and salsa before dinner like almost any other Mexican restaurant. The chips are pretty much tasteless and the salsa isn't distinctive at all. I ordered the Tostada Grande and it was a pretty good size portion, but tasteless like the chips and salsa.

The only good thing I can say about this place is that the atmosphere is somewhat interesting -- a Spanish dining room with unique lighting and gifts for sale. Unfortunately, the atmosphere doesn't make up for the mediocre food.

Pros:
-Atmosphere is somewhat unique
-Cool home decor gifts and apparel for sale
-Happy hour specials from 3-5pm
-Food portions are generous
-Prices are decent

Cons
-Average tasting Mexican food

“Terrible Mexican Food”
Reviewed January 17, 2011

We tried to get into the parent restaurant, "Miguel's" the night before but there was a long wait so we went elsewhere. But we thought this was a good sign so we went back for lunch the next day. Despite apparent open tables, however, they said there would be a 10 minute wait but we could sit outdoors at Miguelitos and assured us the food came from the same kitchen. So we had an outdoor, sidewalk table, not an unpleasant location. But the food was some of the worst Mexican food we've ever eaten. The Chicken enchilada verdes were almost tasteless, the tortillas tough, and the only flavor came from the cheese and the refried beans. Unless we had a particularly "off day" the only explanation for the good reviews for this place and Miguel's is that those who write them don't know or understand food.

“Miguelitos... Big Brother is Miguel's Cocina!!!”
Reviewed January 3, 2011

The food at Miguelitos is just as good as at the "Big Brother".... Miguel's Cocina located in the same hotel building (El Cordova) on Coronado Island.

It should come as no surprise that the food and the salsa is somewhat similar to what they serve at Miguel's. Just great...!!! However, there are a couple of things we really like about Little Miguel's. For starters, Little Miguel's is open for breakfast, which we really like....plus, it is smaller.

Miguelitos also offers shaded and quiet sidewalk seating, which means we can bring our dog along. We have a Cavalier King Charles, and many people out on their morning walk will stop by and say hello to "Maggie".

A very friendly place with good food in a casual setting....just what we like. Five "stars"....!!!
