“Nice Dining on Square - Vegan Friendly Menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

Located on Todo Santos Plaza and adjacent to a enchanting garden courtyard, Toscana makes a big-city impression in a hometown place. Fine decor includes linen, full table service with grace and style, wonderful jazz, boutique bar, and a tour de force menu. Offers full vegetarian menu for lunch and dinner. Nice for a date. Diners who were dressed-up and wearing t-shirts and flip flops were equally welcome and served. Children are also welcomed.

Two dishes were already vegan-friendly and served in culinary perfection. Ordered the Cacciatore with mushrooms and artichoke hearts. Pasta well done, sauces delicious and complex. Also had seafood ravioli, which came in a creamy Florentine sauce: it was reported to be delicious. Pasta dishes at dinner service average $17. Comp basket of warm, soft bread came with dipping oil packed with fresh garlic and herbs.

Lovely boutique bar available if you want to just a have some drinks. Cocktail menu with dinner service features some standards and a few unique offerings. Considering beer and wine were in the $5-$8 range, spending $7.50 on a cocktail seemed reasonable. We were not disappointed.

Al fresco dining is in a lovely walled-garden courtyard setting with fountain and people passing nearby is offered.

“WOW! Dinner and Ambiance was spectacular”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2008

What a gem. We found the restaurant listed on trip advisor without any guest comments and decided to take a chance. Located in a trendy area of Concord immediately adjacent to the public square, we arrived to find a jazz festival going on in the square. Great music, well mannered crowds sitting on the lawn of the park. We entered the restaurant and chose to sit on their patio. August night, cool, light breeze and a fountain adjacent that combined the sound of a waterfall and the music from the square. Just set the mood for a great evening.

Wait staff was attentive and professional. Cocktails were well prepared and delicious.

We were a party of five including an 11 year old. Our entrees ranged from filet mignon and prawns served with a merlot reduction sauce and mashed saffron potatoes to tortelloni in a creamy pesto for our young dinner guest.

Not only did everything LOOK beautiful but the taste was uniformly savory and flavorful. The menu included a vegetarian selection and numerous fish, meat, pasta selections. Our neighbor table was recommending to us a fettuccine and salmon dish that looked delicious, as well.

I opted for the Veal Piccatta and we shared an order of the linguine with cream clam sauce (fresh clams in their shells for garnish around the dish). The filet, mentioned above, was first rate. Every single entree was prepared immaculately, served hot and with flair and I couldn't have found a better culinary experinece if I had driven half an hour to the center of San Francisco and fought the crowds to get into one of the italian restaurants there.

When we finished we walked out the front of the restaurant and found the park in front of us showing an old black and white Humphrey Bogart movie to the crowd on a large public screen mounted on the bandstand (the jazz band had packed up and left). There were stacks of folding chairs leaning against trees for anyone who wanted to take a seat and watch the movie without sitting on the grass.

What an absolutely delightful evening. Thanks to trip advisor, we avoided an italian restaurant named Zio Fraedos, also in Concord. Our hotel Concierge said it was wonderful and highly recommended it, the fellow members at Trip advisor said otherwise citing numerous bad experiences, overpricing and lack of flavor in their dishes.

We love this site and are happy to contribute. Trip Advisor trumps the Concierge everytime.

There is nothing worse than eating a bad meal while on vacation.
