With just average BBQ places in the Diablo valley, I was looking forward to trying Lucille's when the new restaurant next to Sun Valley Mall opened. Even though it wasn't even noon when I arrived, there was a waiting list for a table so I just sat at the bar. The barkeeper came right over and gave me a menu and I ordered a lemonade. Then the wait began. After what seemed to be at least 10 minutes, I got my drink but nobody bothered to come take my order. After another 10 minutes or so I finally got the attention of another barkeeper and I ordered my brisket sandwich with a mac and cheese side. At least the food came in a reasonable amount of time. Virtually all other BBQ places I've been to would serve sliced brisket for a sandwich but that wasn't the case here. This time the brisket was chopped into small pieces and that combined with the very soft (and small) roll it was on made for a very messy meal. The meat was okay but certainly nothing special and the mac and cheese was pretty oh-hum. With the bill for a small sandwich, one side, and a lemonade coming to over $ 16.50, I also thought it was pretty expensive. There are lots of other restaurants in the Diablo valley where I could have had a much better lunch for not as much money.
