Talk about a small town joint! This tiny place is jam packed with locals most of the day. It's a mom and pop shop hosted by Lauren and Mario. Lauren used to work here part time when she was in high school and moved back to town to own the place with chef Mario and baby daughter, Luna. When you walk in the door, chances are that Lauren or sister Erica will greet you by name. Good variety of tasty and healthful meal choices and usually a special of the day. Free Wi-Fi (yes we even have computers in Colfax now!). A great place to dine or just hang with the locals.

Cafe Luna is great place for a stop if you are on I-80 between Sacramento and Reno. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, quesadillas, and salads. Both of the entrees we had were carefully prepared and the ingredients were fresh. We didn't have dessert, but there was a good looking pie on the counter.

This restaurant is the former Evangeline's. Just recently changed management. The new co-owners (Lauren and husband Mario) are absolutely delightful people (their young daughter is named Luna). Great fresh pastries and pies and friendlier and happier than ever before. They also have daily specials. Business is booming and for good reason.

Lauren is a native of Colfax and used to work here when she was in high school. When the original owner decided to close, the sad news was posted in the local paper, the Colfax Record. Lauren heard about it and almost instantly decided to buy it and move back to town. She and Mario (Mario is a chef) are totally committed to making this little gem the best it can be. They have lots of ideas for new menu items. The fresh burritos are great.

My wife and I went there on the first day of new ownership. We both had sandwiches which were very excellent. They were served with side salads that had some really great dressing on them. We also met some of the locals that are apparently regulars. A couple of out-of-towners dropped by and got wrapped up in the friendly conversation.

This is a mom & pop shop in the truest sense of the word. Lauren knows all the locals by name and usually knows what they're going to order. Every time I visit, I see a neighbor or two.

There are two tables out front on the boardwalk of this building which is probably close to 150 years old. Being a small town, there are usually some locals lounging on the boardwalk swapping local gossip. They often have live music on Saturday nights.

They are only open for breakfast and lunch.
