Usually on the drive down to SoCal, I stop at whichever rest stop is nearest when I need a break, but after visiting Harris Ranch, I will always try to make it a point to plan my stop there. Parking is plentiful, the building has a nice shop to browse through so you can stretch your legs and pick up some baked snacks, and the restroom is nice and clean (definitely beats a gas station restroom).

If you have time for a sit-down meal, the restaurant is really good and worth what you pay. Their portions are huge and you really get a good deal on your prime rib :)

“An "Oasis" in the middle of No where !”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

Traveling up interstate 5 towards Stockton California last week ,we stop in the middle of no where, to get gas and eat at the Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant in Coalinga, Ca. What a surprise ! This farm country restaurant was AWESOME ! This very elegant, and fancy western themed restaurant, was huge and wonderful. The restaurant has a separate fancy steak house, jockey club, ranch kitchen restaurant, horseshoe lounge, garden ballroom, and country store. All of these facilities are beautifully decorated in great old western attire, and the food and drinks they provide are awesome ! The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are super large ! Our family had the roasted Turkey with garlic mashed potatoes, with some of the best Dressing I have ever had. We also had the Prime Rib Sandwich which was cooked to perfection and Huge ! If you are traveling up the interstate 5, plan on stopping for gas and enjoying a wonderful meal at this " Oasis " in farm Land. You will not be disappointed, and you will be pleasantly surprised !

“Best Spot In the Middle of I-5 Trip”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

I have eaten here many times, both at the steakhouse and the kitchen. The menu from both restaurants is available at each. Prompt service and friendly atmosphere. Recommend that if you want to eat at the steakhouse, obtain a reservation. It is easy to call ahead when you are on the road. The food is tasty and well presented with generous portions. Harris Ranch farms most of its own food and the produce offerings are seasonal; however, the focus is on meat, not vegetables.

“In the middle of nowhere”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

What a counter-intuitive location for a high-end restaurant and motel. However, Harris Ranch pulls it off, serving largely locally sourced food in an very resort, rancho-styled building. They are known for their high quality beef and the menu us replete with many opportunities to sample their product. The wait staff is attentive and prompt. The only downside is that most patrons are pulling off a long stint on Highway 5 with miles to go before they sleep, so you have to watch how much to eat and drink.
