Auberge on the Vineyard
Ranked #4 of 4 Cloverdale B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 7, 2013

I will start off by saying how wonderful Roxanne is! From the second we arrived, we were greeted by her and welcomed to her Inn. She is warm, bubbly, knowledgeable, and one heck of a cook! The three course breakfasts are delicious and creative. Dessert with breakfast? Why not!! Her staff is excellent as well.

After breakfast, Roxanne will help you plan your day, giving recommendations on local wineries/vineyards (she tells it like it is!). Make sure you use the winery pass provided in your welcome envelope. We must have saved over $120 between tastings and bottle purchases. This added perk alone is worth staying at Auberge.

We stayed 2 nights in the Victorian House in the Margeux room. It's a bit small, but as the most affordable room, totally understandable. It has a view of the vineyard too.

The last night, we stayed in the carriage house in the Vouvray room, which is gorgeous. It has an electric fireplace, updated finishes, and access to the front balcony overlooking the vineyard.

Auberge is in Cloverdale, which is a bit "up and coming" in terms of towns in the Sonoma region. It's a bit far north, almost near Mendocino County, so to get to the regions you may want to visit (Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley) it is about 15-30 minute drive, depending on where you want to go. The location does however, lead to a logical trip, where you can start at the top, and work your way down through the country, just be aware that it's not "in the action."

Make sure to ask Roxanne if you can take a tour of Bob Dog Winery (which you wouldn't do if you stayed further south, as it is almost in Mendocino County). Bob Dog is wonderful, and the tour of the vineyards and winery was great.

Room Tip: Get a room in the carriage house if you want a little more privacy.

We extended our stay an extra day because we did not want to leave this idyllic inn. I have never stayed at a better bed and breakfast. I can't think of anything I could have wanted that was not generously provided by Roxanne, our gracious host. She went above and beyond to make sure our visit to Sonoma was perfect. She gave excellent winery recommendations and cooked 3-course gourmet breakfasts that were to die for. The view out our window was fantastic. I highly recommend staying in the carriage house. I can't wait to return!

Room Tip: The upper floor carriage house had a fantastic view.

My boyfriend and I vistied Auberge mid week. Our first B&B experience was the most amazing we have ever experienced. The views are lush with flourshing grape vines, bursting with fruit waiting to be harvested. We saw a bald eagle in flight as we enjoyed our coffee on the private of the Echezeaux Room. The bed was plush and very comfortable. The grounds are beautifully kept up in this wonderful hide-a-way. We met wonderful people during our fabulous breakfast experience. The breakfast was superb and plentiful. Roxanne out did herself on food preparation and presentation. She takes time to know her guests and sets up destinations they desire. She has personal contacts for wineries where you can experience another fabulous time. We will definately stay at Auberge again, I suggest you do to!!!

Room Tip: Definately look on line at the rooms, you can see EXACTLY what you are getting which helps your deci...

My husband and I stayed with friends at Roxanne's Bed & Breakfast two years ago and forgot all about reviewing it after returning to Denmark. However this summer we have been visiting several other Bed & Breakfasts in the US, and Auberge on the Vineyard has several times been the topic of conversation, as this place is so much better than most B&Bs. Roxanne was a perfect hostess who made us feel really welcome. Her three course breakfast was excellent, the rooms were nice and clean, the wine recommendations were great, and Cloverdale is a great, little town.

My husband I visited the Auberge on the Vineyard to celebrate our 15th wedding Anniversary. We stayed in the Montrachet Suite in the carriage house. It was a beautiful room! The claw-foot tub overlooking the vineyard was wonderful. We had picturesque views and a spacious room. The breakfasts were wonderful and the staff was very accommodating. They even packed us sandwiches on a day when we were heading out early. If 4.5 were an option to rate this place, that's what I would have given it. We really did have a nice stay. The outdoor grounds could use a little more TLC, but as far as the room and food went we were very pleased with our selection. Cloverdale is a bit off the beaten path, so I would plan for a little driving-- but if you are looking to get away from hustle and bustle, this is a great choice. We would recommend this B and B to friends and relatives.

Room Tip: The Montrachet is on the bottom floor of the carriage house, but it is the only one on that floor, s...

Roxanne has set the bar very high for our next bed and breakfast. Great food, entertaining conversation, very nice rooms, excellent location, and did I mention great food!? We will have to return to the Sonoma Valley just to stay at the Auberge again.

We stayed one night in the carriage house which has a beautiful view on... the vineyard! The place is so peaceful. The bed are very comfortable and huge. It is located 3 minutes from lovely downtown Cloverdale where we had excellent food, beer, and made some local friends. The breakfast was a homemade 3-course meal and it was delicious!
The owner of the place was extremely friendly and funny too.
I definitely recommend this place.
