“Calm, clean, very friendly - and excellent food”

The Rice Villa is a jewel. Two bungalows with terraces, view over the paddyfields, nice spot for having meals and very welcoming and helpful owners and staff. It was more or less by accident that I stayed overnight, as I had booked 2 nights at the Ancient Villa (close to Sygiriya; very nice too, same owner). For my plans it was just easier to stay in the Rice Villa the 2nd night: it was the owner who proposed it and organised easy and reasonable transport. in general you can ask and tell them what you want to see and they will help organising it - and have some great hints, too. Rooms are either with or without TV. Matrasses are really nice too - for a change ;-) They are still working on the place (paths are work in progress, some work in bathrooms will be done), but it was calm and quiet all stay long. Loved the people, the place and the food.

Room Tip: Guidebooks do not gove the righ prices (throughout Sri Lanka prices have gone up during the last mon...

We stayed in a lovely, clean, newly- built chalet with a veranda looking out onto a rice paddy. The owners are really helpful and friendly and the food was delicious Sri Lankan served on a high platform overlooking the rice paddy.

The approach down a very bumpy track should not put you off. What lies at the end is idylic.
Superb en suite chalets with a vista of the paddys. Add a warm welcome and attentive and efficient service then great food. The place is 9 KMs from Polonnaruwa but there are plenty of roadside shops and a bank close by. Tours of the ancient sites and a long distance transfer were arranged by Mr Dimuthu. If we are in the area again we would definitely stay here.

On the border of a far stretching rice field we were greeted with enthousiasm
A group of young people have decided to excell on all aspects of service. 4 freestanding little
bungalows are comfortly equiped and decorated with taste. A small terrace opens the view on a enormous rice field full of birds and wild peacocks. The meals are served on a elevated straw covered terrace and the simple dishes are well prepared by the woman in a small
Kitchen. We loved it

We were lucky to end up in Rice Villa while visiting Polonnaruwa. what a gem! This two villas are just on the edge of a rise field.
The family that runs the place is very friendly and helpful. We were invited to watch them cook our diner, and it was one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka. Really amazing selection of curries, including beetroot curry!
The view from the villa is beautiful. The restaurant area is also very nice and cosy among palm trees and banana trees. After delicious meal nothing beats sitting in front of the villa with a cold Lion and listening to the sounds of the night

Highly recommended if you are in the area, a beautiful secluded place with a family atmosphere

Rice villa is held by Mr Dimuthu and his familiy. Their bungallows are relatively simple but very nicely put together, warm and comfortable. You don't need more than that especially since Mr Dimuthu will do everything to please you. We've been welcomed with a smile and a cocktail and had the newly installed air condictionner in the room. In the morning you can see the sun rising above the beautiful rice fields that stand right in front of your room. In the evening we had the best meal ever in Sri Lanka and a nice talk with Mr Dimuthu who took time to advice us on the best places to visit.

We also were very lucky to have one of his best driver (we haven't tryed the others though), Sampath, who is a smart young man who will do anything to satisfy your wishes as long as you know what you want to see and do. Otherwise he will naturally guide you in the places that must be seen. Within a week, he led us everywhere in record time (we only now realize that we were a bit pushy) and has always been both quiet and attentive to the point that we became friends.

Even though we were a bit wary at first (new country, different culture, jetlag ...), we rapidly felt confortable with him. A word of advice: put aside your prejudices and do not hesitate to be a little generous with such nice people, they will give it back to you, starting with a smile.

We highly recommend the Rice Villa for its beautiful bungallow and delicious food and Sampath as a driver for you.

Lionel & Karin

Room Tip: Just ask for the best bungallow, but we they were all nice!
