“Oodles of views”

What a lovely lake! The roads around it are good roads, and have some pull outs so you can stop to take pictures. I go over there from time to time, and enjoy it every time. If you fish, you'll enjoy the bass.

The lake is full of rotting algae for many months of the year. Check before considering going here. Facilities are good enough with an IGA and most other basic conveniences you need. Also easy to find.

“If you like Bass fishing, it doesnt get any better!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

I visit this lake every year at least 2 or 3 times during the spring for the best largemouth bass fishing I have ever experienced anywhere. Me & a buddy of mine always hire a local guide with a fully equipped boat, live bait & lures to take us out to the hot spots & we always end up catching & releasing lots of fish. The average bass there is about 3 pounds, but I typically end up catching at least one over 5 pounds & there are lots of 10 pounders swimming around just waiting to be caught. During the spring & early summer, the scenery from out on the lake is beautiful, especially if you like bird watching. Once the summer heats up though, the water becomes very overgrown with algae & the bass fishing on the lake slows down for the rest of the year. There are some huge catfish to be caught during the summer, but the heat makes it difficult to spend much time out on the water. There is not much to do in the town & unfortunately the economy has put lots of places out of business. There is a noticeable trailer trash community, but most people are friendly & I have never had any problems in town. The area does seem to be slowly getting nicer & there are some decent restaurants & inns as well as all of the typical fast food & grocery stores around. If you like bass fishing & can come here during the spring time, then it is a great place to catch a lunker. Otherwise, there are probably better places to go during the hot summer months.

“A Huge and Varied Lake”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

Some places have hot springs within the lake that you can feel if you are swimming. We have kayaked on this lake and we have gone to some beaches where the smell was so bad we didn't even put the kayak in the water. Some places have hot springs within the lake that you can feel if you are swimming. There is interesting wildlife in places.
