“A Peak Experience in More Ways than One”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2012

Lots of great memories of this park: watching Comet Hale Bopp & a simultaneous eclipse of the moon in a darkened parking lot at the top of the peak with hundreds of other guests in a block-party like mood; seeing the snow-capped Sierra on a clear day; hikes throughout the park.

“Wildflowers, wildlife, hiking, camping and vistas from Yosemite to Lassen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2012

Thousands of peaceful acres in the East Bay preserved by WPA and CCC projects, Mt. Diablo is picnic and scenery haven near SF. Microhabitats make for doqens of spring flower zones lasting all summer. We've also seen falcons and coyotes, among other things--and surprisingly few people. A good bicyicle workout, too.

“Wonderful place to see wildflowers in the spring”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

We hike areas of Mt. Diablo on a regular basis. I think one of the best trailheads is out of Clayton's Mitchell Creek Staging Area. Starting on the main trail, you can branch out into other single-track trails, or stay on one that leads to Deer Flat. Continuing on, you can reach the summit for an all-day strenuous hike. During the spring, the wildflowers are in bloom in abundance and this makes for a very enjoyable hike -- not the mention that the hills are still beautifully lush and green. Be prepared for a tough hike after the first 2 miles if you continue up to Deer Flat and the summit. The views are simply amazing the higher you go. Wear hiking boots, or trail running shoes at a minimum. You'll need them.

“OH MY GOSH WHAT A VIEW”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

If you are in the East Bay this is a fantastic drive up a steep twisting road. If the weather is not clear, do not bother. We drove to the top (short drive) and stopped along the way for pictures. We turned around at the entrance to the park as we were not prepared to visit. They do weddings up here. Bike riders are to watch out for while driving. There is a fee if you use the park but do not know it. The view, if clear, will blow you away.

“Use to be a fun place to go...”

Closed off and on. Bikes dangerously allowed on the most curvaceous roadway and a very real danger to cars. Better off, if one can? To walk to the top.
