We were out looikn around Sac and had heard about Clarksburg. The Old Sugar Mill houses a number of winery tasting rooms and it is a fun place to visit. Great use for an old mill.

“Carvalho Family Winery is a great find.”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We have been going to the Carvalho Family Winery for some time. We find that it is continually improving in both the quality of their wines as well as their hospitality.
We have also been a member of their wine club. It is a great outing to drive up from Rio Vista to pick up our quarterly club purchase (four bottles). With it they gave us a truffle, two light lunches, and wine. They refer to this as a "light lunch". It quite sufficient and quite delicious. John Carvalho is almost always on hand to greet his customers.

Attended a wedding. Came early to check out shops. Nice variety of wine "stores" in historical setting. Beautiful setting for a wedding.

“Old Buildings, New Grapes”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Just got back from our second trip to the Old Sugar Mill this year. We live about 15 minutes away in Sacramento, but Clarksburg seems like another world away. This charming Delta area has become a lovely regional stop for wine afficianados and the Old Sugar Mill offers lots of great wineries in one place. The site is a former sugarbeet cannery, and some of the abandoned brick buildings are still on view, while the main section of the site offers wonderful local and regional wines for tasting. Regular tastings run $5, but today was one of their many special events: a wine and art faire with a set ticket price for lots and lots of tastings, vendors and music. Great place to take guests if you live in the area, with a couple of picnic tables available if you want to bring lunch. Very scenic locale and driving if you're on holiday. Enjoy!

“Excellent experience”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We had a marvelous time visiting this interesting and somehwat novel building and the tenant wineries. Clarksburg area grows some very good quality grapes and have very skilled winemakers and servers in the individual wineries. It was a pleasant experience all around. We went on a day mid-week, when some of the tasting rooms were closed, but still had plenty of great wines to taste.

This is a unique venue and well worth the time to visit. You'll not be disappointed. We plan to return the next time we are in the Sacramento area.

There's an excellent deli about a block away. Ask one of the servers about it as we did not find food in the Sugar Mill itself.
