“Lovely Golf Weekend - Very Secluded”
Reviewed January 2, 2008

We stayed at the Pacific Palms for New Years Eve weekend - seeing as this is a conference resort, we expected it to be rather quiet for this normally tourist driven weekend, and it was.

The resort met all of our expectations for a very reasonable price. My husband played the golf course (there's two - Ike and Babe) and said that it was very well maintained. I walked to a few holes and thought some of the views were gorgeous.

I went to the spa, which is pretty modest. The hot stone massage was wonderful. Bath products and spa amenities in the room were great.

The food from room service (burgers) and the St. Andrews Commons snack shop (ham and cheese sandwich) was great; the food at the only restaurant on property currently (Cima - pork pasta dish and prime rib) was adequate.

I think if you visit this property you need to have appropriate expectations - this is not a place to stay if you are looking for a "scene" or want to see the sights in LA. In fact, there area just surrounding the property is quite industrial and not for sightseeing at all. If you are looking for a quiet spot on a holiday weekend to play some golf and enjoy your partner's company in nice surroundings, this is perfect.

One last thing - the staff at the property is among the best of any place we've ever stayed, better even than some 5 Star places. We raved about everyone - from the people who work at the boutique, to the front desk people, to the attendants at the Hot Spot Lounge. Just a really suprising and refreshing change.

  • Liked — The service, the golf, it was very quiet
  • Disliked — As mentioned in other reviews, the plumbing is pretty loud. It would have been nice to have one other option for food on the property.

Nicely decorated and updated rooms, wireless connecttivity a plus, nice Aveda bath products, robe in the room, lovely golf course view. Front desk very friendly, room service was very accomodating. Though this hotel is not as close to So-Cal attractions as most would like, it is a good value.

The hotel and the hotel property were very lovely but our stay was less then expected. This hotel is definitely not for people traveling with children. You definitely need a car to get to the main attractions of Southern California since the shuttle they provide only goes within a 5 mile radius. Unfortunately it doesn't always run when it is supposed to. We had called the shuttle to pick us up from a nearby mall and were told 10 minutes... we waited 45 minutes and eventually gave up and called a cab. The food is good but a little on the pricey side and unfortunately there isn't much else around. Beautiful hotel but not a good stay for a vacation especially if you don't drive.

I booked this resort thinking it was "top notch"...well it is definately a place for business travelers....also they claimed there was fridge in the room...there is...but it is a wet bar...if you want a fridge it is 15 dollars more. Definately not for a family...althought the pool and the grounds are gorgeous! They have a golf course on site and have locals coming in and out to golf! The rooms are very nicely decorated and very contemporary! The only problem with our room was that when we tried to use the iron and the blow dryer at the same time, the electricity would go out. We would have to wait for maintenance to show up!!! Not good! Oh...and it is a very old property!!! Don't be too surprised when you look at pics and drive up to this "old" looking building!!! Email me with questions before booking!!!

  • Liked — the grounds are gorgeous...it sits on top of a hill in city of industry overlooking everything!
  • Disliked — very business oriented establishment!

The resort is beautiful with fantastic views. It is located high on a hill before the San Gabriel Mountains. It is approximately a 40 minure ride to most beaches and LA. This is a business hotel so during the day, if you are on vacation and not a business trip, you have the pool and facilities to yourself. There is also a great driving range and golf course on site. The restaurants on the premises tend to be on the high side, but there are plenty of restaurants within driving distance if you have a car. The bedding is nice and comfy. The only complaint we had was the maid services. We stayed for 10 days and on at least 3 occassions we had to reuqest coffee, cream sugar, and toiletries along with towels.... Not sure if there was a language barrier that created the problem. The carpet in our room was a little old and stained in spots, but other then that we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the resort to others.

  • Liked — Comfy Bed
  • Disliked — Had to request toiletries, coffee...on a few occassions

I stayed here for five nights for a business program. I arrived around 10pm and was given a room on the second floor. It was a corner room that was vey spacious and had a king bed. Fantastic view as the property is on a hill. The rooms are not very sound-proof; I could hear the pinging of golf balls at the driving range but it did not keep me from getting a good night's rest in my comfy bed. There were some issues with peanuts still on the floor from the previous guest so the housekeeping could use some improving. Meeting rooms were nice except the temperature was always cold.

The food was overall very good. Breakfast buffet included an omelette station, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes pancakes, waffles and oatmeal. Wonderful fruit selection, especially the fresh berries and strawberries! Lunch buffets offered a variety of salads and entrees. Each day was a different theme: Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, etc. but every day there was also a deli bar and a soup. There was a dessert bar and my favorite was the bread pudding. It was served warm with a sauce on the side and was so good I had it four days in a row! Dinners were not buffet. The prime rib was not good, mainly because it was drowning in gravy, but the salmon was outstanding as was the filet mignon. Be careful when at all-day meetings as the snacks are plentiful! Most afternoons there was a special break station. One day it was Mexican: nachos with salsa and guacamole, churros, and the most wonderful strawberry-guava juice. The chocolate fondue was good as well. Yes, you could gain a few pounds if you don't watch it... The service was very good.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Pacific Palms. It was not perfect and they were still constructing the spa, but the property is beautiful and the views are very nice. And... the food is fine! I recommend it for meetings and it would also be fine for a vacation.

This is a beautiful property and nice enough staff. However, you can hear EVERYTHING. The shower and toilets above when used sound like your wall is exploding, it will wake you up!
Room was never cleaned properly, even when we complained. I am not usually fussy, but did not sleep a wink.
Don't order the prime rib, it is the worst meal I have had at a hotel.
It was disappointing, for such a beautiful spot, very poorly built structure.
