When friends come to California and we are near the ocean they want a nice restaurant with a water view, good food and a scenic stroll after dinner. They don't want fancy and they don't want a food shack.

This restaurant fits that bill and the week day specials makes it very affordable. Be prepared for a little wait and enjoy this place for what it can be relaxing and good food.

I have been to the Galley several times - it is a favorite of mine and of many people I know.. You can easily get a table right on San Diego Bay by the harbor and boats. It is a reasonably priced casual restaurant that is perfect for lunch on a sunny day. Food is good. Their specialty is fish and chips. A comfortable enjoyable venue for families or work lunches.. I have always found the service to be friendly if maybe not the most polished.

On Friday, 8/7/09. I had some visitors and we came to your establishment at the Marina for lunch. We sat down and waited for the waitress to come. Instead, we were greeted by the manager and a waitress and were told” That we were not going to be served because some of our waitress said that I was being rude to them”. I can’t express how embarrassed I was. To be falsely accused in front of my guests as well as other guest having lunch in the restaurant. I told the manager that it was not me and tried to explain that I’m not rude. Although I knew exactly what the manager was talking about I made a small attempt to defend my character. I was told that I had to speak with you before I can be served at the Galley again. To avoid any more embarrassment, we left quietly. On two different occasions we were in your restaurant and received less than adequate service.
1) On a Sunday morning, my husband and I sat and waited for the waitress a little longer than we should have without being greeted. By the time we were, we pretty much knew what we wanted so we ordered our food. When our meals came the waitress (Gabriel) left and never came back to check to see if we needed anything, if our drinks were full, or if everything was alright. My husband ordered cornbeef hash and eggs, and they were fine. I ordered scrambled eggs and bacon, but my eggs were cold. So I picked at my potatoes, ate my bacon. Because she never came back except to bring our check, I wrote on the ticket: No tip, poor service, cold food. I did this because I don’t want to complain. I felt it wouldn’t get pass the waitress. There were no words exchanged. Our receipt spoke for itself. After we left our table we visited with other friends and neighbors that were also there, and every time Gabriel walked by, she would look as us with so much anger. Even today when I walk through the walkway, I receive this threatening stare.

2) On Fish fry night, I came in for dinner with my mother. Once again we waited longer than we should have before being greeted or acknowledged. I really didn’t have a problem with this due to the restaurant was extremely busy. I understand this because I’m an X waitress. I came for the fish dinner but mother wanted to look at a menu. Instead of the waitress going to grab a couple of menus. She disappeared and then came back to fill other guests water glasses, hug and visit and chit-chat with other patrons before bringing us menus. By the time she came with the menus, we had already gotten them from the busboy. I have to say at this point we were not happy. We went on and ordered the fish dinners which were also brought by the busboy. By the time we were halfway into our meal when the server (Christy) came and asked “if everything was alright?” That’s when mother said “You have a lot of nerve to ask”. I tried to defuse that situation with a smile and I mouthed the word sorry, because I know how direct my mother can be. Mother is diabetic and when she needs to eat she gets very anxious. You see at this time we didn’t have condiments or eating utensils when our food came and because the busboy waited on us and also gotten our second order of all you can eat fish, Mom gave him the tip.

Because of these two situations of non-tipping, I am being wrongly accused of being rude. Like I have mentioned, I’m not rude and I don’t like confrontation. However, I do or do not tip based on the service I receive. Whatever happened to “The Customer is Always Right”? and what happens when the waitress is rude? I’ve served many rude people not knowing what’s going on in their lives at that moment. My job was to serve.
By the way, the owner, Fran never contacted me on this matter.
