“Not bad for a quiet city”
Reviewed December 30, 2008

The room was a true suite with a pocket door separating the living room and sleeping area. It was a bit strange to have the bedroom in the front with the living room in the rear. I would think this would be a bit akward for a business traveler.

It was a decently large room but the hotel was noisy. From the amorous couple upstairs the the talkers in the hallway...you could hear it all (and I mean all!).

The breakfast was good and the evening reception was also a nice touch. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is good for visiting the Sierra Nevada brewery just down the street and there are about 4 big shopping centers and a mall in the neighborhood.

My Husband and I stayed at the Oxford for 5 nights . During our stay we experienced nothing short of excellence from the moment we walked into the lobby, till we checked out . The staff is exemplary in all matters .The Inn was undergoing some upgrades which are well thought out and beautiful. The construction crews were extremely polite and considerate . Our maid was perfect as was the total consistent cleanliness of our room and the rest of the Inn . We appreciated the Breakfast and the cocktail hour offerings. The kitchen /Bar staff were outstanding and very friendly . The linens and mattresses were of good quality which made for great sleep .The rooms are comfy and quiet . They thought of everything ...
The location is very good allowing for convenience to the Mall ,some great restaurants and access to the Freeway is very easy . We look forward to staying in the future and will recommend The Oxford to our friends , family , business associates and to you!
If you have to leave your home , stay where you will be comfortable , We strongly suggest the Oxford Inn , Chico ...

  • Liked — The bed ,the cleanliness ,,,everything...

We were visiting due to a soccer tournament and I appreciated the suites since we had a couple of teenagers staying with us.
The rooms were remodeled, large, clean w/2 TVs, fridge, microwave etc. The free nightly reception w/drinks and appetizers and morning breakfast bar were more than adequate, in fact good. Remember, Sierra Nevada is Chico's "domestic" beer! The staff was friendly and the location was perfect since it's located at the end of a "restaurant row" where you can walk to enjoy everything from fast food to filet mignon. The price was O.K @ $115 per. That was the same as many other team families paid at another non suite hotel.
Well, that's all good. The bad; The hallway noise was so loud it was like not having a door! Actually it might have been better not to have doors so you don't wake up everytime someone within 4 rooms either way goes in or out. Unlike this one, most suite hotels have the bedroom separate from the entrance. That would certainly help.
All in all a very clean, well run property and perfect for those deep sleepers, and/or early risers. Unfortunately, I'm neither.

  • Liked — Large clean rooms w/helpful staff. Good location.
  • Disliked — Normal noise outside of rooms in hallway sounded AMPLIFIED.

I have stayed here a number of times in the last five years, but this will be my last. Many have written about the breakfast buffet and the cocktail hour....bb gets boring, but is okay, ch is nice for two big Sierra Nevadas (or wine), but the appetizers are definitely low rent.Still VCRs, no DVD capability. No NBC channel today to watch college football. No vending machines, they've got a little convenience store connected to the front desk....prices not displayed, a can of coke 95 cents, an ice cream cone $2.25. Every other time I stayed here, was able to get a few copies made gratis, but this time charged 10 cents a copy.
No frequent traveler system, which is almost expected these days from a chain hotel.
But the weirdest thing is the stairwells, that have consistently reeked of something like heavy duty insecticide. It is almost enough to turn your stomach, and this is the case at all three stairwells.

We stayed at Oxford Suites in Chico when we were evacuated from our home because of a large fire in our area. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I left my cell phone at home when I was evacuated and Jenny at the front desk actually let me take her cell phone daily when I left the hotel to try to find out about the condition of my home. Thank you, Jenny!

The hotel is clean and the breakfast and snacks were great. It's too bad were stayed thereat such a stressful time in our lives. But they did everything they could to make things easier.

I was expecting this hotel to look like the photos on the website & it didn't quite look the same. They are in the process of major construction & it was really a mess. Our first room was clean but not nice at all--very shabby old furniture--the bed & sofa bed were really worn & saggy. Our room had a strange gas smell---the staff was extremely nice about it--handled it quickly & moved us to the second floor (from the first). Our second floor room was great--brand new furniture & paint job.

The reception & breakfast were very nice. We were there on a week-end & it was a bit crowded.

We did not use the pool--it was pretty crowded.

It was our first time in Chico--so I am not sure how this compares to other hotels in the area. The price was right & the the staff was great. I would request a second floor remodeled room though.

My daughter and I stayed at the Oxford Suites during our tour of college campuses. She loved Chico State and we were both happy with the hotel. The room was clean and spacious enough for two of us, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the extras were very nice - free wine/beer and snacks in the evening, free full breakfast in the morning. The only glitch was a temporary one - they are remodeling, so there was a worker on scaffolding right outside our second floor room on playing his radio quite loudly at 8:00 am! We would definitely stay here again.
