Description: Based on influences from all over the world, the Red Tavern menu is renewed every season. Our cuisine is New American and we utilize the freshest, locally-grown, seasonal and organic produce and meats. Our dining room is upscale, yet comfortable and charming. Our large patio is absolutely stunning. It features a bocce court, twinkling lights, and mature trees. We offer an extensive wine list, which is balanced with New and Old World wines from both largely-popular wineries to small, interesting boutiques. We offer over one hundred selections at any given time to include wines locally-produced. Our talented bartenders create exciting signature cocktails based on classic recipes but often with a twist while utilizing seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs. Come to Red Tavern to dine, drink and play.

“very good food, friendly staff”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

This restaurant was recommended by the owners of the B&B I was staying at while my son checked out the college and one of their sports teams this weekend. I find it weird to eat solo in a nice restaurant, but enjoyed my experience here. I had a reservation, but opted to sit at the bar. The martinis are excellent and the menu was full of fresh choices. It appears that their menu changes often (maybe daily). The restaurant was really busy, but I was able to order at the bar and talk to some of the locals. It was a very pleasant experience.

“Good but not amazing”
Reviewed October 30, 2011

Ambiance: we went on Saturday night. We sat under a music speaker and the music was noticable and, for the atmosphere that they appear to be trying to create, brash and inappropriate.
Service: Not all servers are versed on the wine selection. Pacing was avergage to poor. Servers overly informal.
Food: Butternut squash soup was velvety and perfectlt seasoned. Prawns were briney and perfectly cooked, served on a bed of delicious Romanesco sauce. Side greens were bright and crunchy.
Steaks were cooked perfectly to order. Potatoes fried in duck fat were a slight let down. Radicchio salad with pears and Gorgonzola was a terrific side dish.
Walnut tart dessert was okay-walnuts were either not or were under-toasted. Texture a little off.
Coffee was good and strong. Cocktails perfectly made. Bread had a good wheat flavor and boasted an excellent crust (the salted butter was a surprise).
I'd go again, but would lower my expectations.

“Good restaurant, but quite expensive”
Reviewed June 27, 2011

After living in Chico for more than a decade, I finally had a chance to eat dinner at the Red Tavern on Tuesday evening. It was very busy, especially considering it's summer, but this is not too surprising given the general lack of high-end restaurants in Chico. I was also told that many of these establishments are closed Tuesdays. Ambiance at the R.T. is fine for California. The food was good--well prepared and flavorful and a decent portion (medium sized). I'd have to say service was rather cool and indifferent. Be prepared to pay for your meal...two entrees and one glass of wine ran us almost $80 (including tax and tip). So I'd say R.T. is a good high-end choice for Tuesday nights.

“Great Local Food at a Great Price”
Reviewed May 15, 2011

Went here for an anniversary dinner on a tuesday night and the place was packed!!! We sat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the bartender, great guy. We were seated after a while outside in the amazing back patio! Food was stellar, great smoke salmon appetizers, amazing duck and ahi tuna dishes. And absolutely amazing dessert and the best wine selection in Chico hands down, as well as best service in Chico hands down!
