My girlfriend and I ate here May 24, 2013. This was on a Friday night, and the place was packed with people when we entered this restaurant a little after 9:00 p.m. It took about ten minutes for the waitress to take our order. Then it took another 15 minutes to get our order, which is not bad considering the amount of people eating at that time of night. I had my usual chicken burger sandwich, and my girlfriend had the spaghetti dinner. A little before 10:00 p.m., we finished our meal and were waiting for the check. We waited until 10:20 p.m., and had to ask our waitress to please bring the check to our table. She did, and I went to the cashier to pay the bill. I showed my AARP card along with the bill. (AARP members get a 20 percent discount at Denny's between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.) The cashier said that since it was past 10:00 p.m., the discount could not apply to our meal. I pointed out that we had ordered our meal just past 9:00 p.m., and finished our meal just before 10:00 p.m. It was not my fault that the waitress was slow in getting us our check. The cashier would not budge from her position of not honoring the AARP discount. I asked for a supervisor, and assistant manager Isidro Velazquez (hope I spelled his name correctly) spoke with me. He stated that it is indeed Denny's policy to not give the AARP discount after 10:00 p.m., but under the circumstances, he would honor the discount. Now that is what customer service is all about. His boss should give him a commendation for doing the right thing under the circumstances. In any case, I would eat at this Denny's again when in the Chico area. What can I say, it is a Denny's. Food is pretty much consistent nationwide.
