This park is beautiful ALL year round. Amazing volunteers work very hard to keep invasive plants out and keep the ferrel cat population from getting out of hand. You can walk, jog, bike, horses, swim, play, hike, kites, frisbies, you name it!

We mainly just got out and looked around didn't spend a lot of time here. The river was huge so a great place to swim on a hot day.

The Bidwell Park in Chico is one of the best in-town parks around. First, it is right in town (starts across from Chipotle and Jamba Juice outlets). Second, it is huge -- over 3000 acres. Third, it has something for just about everyone. The natural pool made by creating a concrete lined section of the Bidwell Sacramento River that flows through town is a great idea, a combination of a natural stream and a pool. During the hot Chico summers the cool river water is just the right antidote to the heat and the fact that it is a river keeps it much cleaner than a regular pool. Having said that, the concrete floor is cleaned on Thursdays and the floor gets rather slimy by the preceding Wednesday (so best to go on Friday or Saturday). In addition to the swimming, there are miles of hiking trails that start in the "Lower Park" and continue in the "Upper Park". The Lower Park has more tree cover and the trails are easy walks. In the Upper Park the landscape and the trails are more rugged. There is also a special children's section in the lower park for toddlers and little children. Great place to read, swim, have a picnic and hike.

A quiet, serene environment to rest your soul. Swimmers will enjoy the lengthy, free flowing pool created from an active creek.
