The Bidwell House B&B Inn
Ranked #1 of 1 Chester B&B and Inns

I can honestly say this is the nicest place I have ever stayed. This B&B provided everything to make our stay a pleasure . Facilities included all the usual – WIFI , big room , Whirlpool bath , guest computer , games , patio and garden seating , use of their fridge and coffee maker , sherry , games – I could go on but I think , if asked , they would have catered for any request . The owner even drove another family to a restaurant as there was nowhere local open once they had settled in !
Three course breakfast was restaurant quality. If we weren’t just passing through Chester , we would have stayed longer. Great value for money .

We came to Bidwell House for our 1st wedding anniversary weekend and stayed in the Meadow View room which was extremely nice. We had a delicious 3 course breakfast every morning in the dining room except for one day where we took breakfast in bed at no extra charge. Omelettes, scrambles and blueberry pancakes were all on offer while we were there and everything was delicious.
It's a great location for exploring the area and there's enough in Chester dining-wise to keep you from needing to drive too far; everything's walkable.
The owners also have the Red Onion Bar & Grill in the Lake Almanor Peninsula Village and can arrange to take you there and bring you back to the B&B if you're planning to drink.

Room Tip: The Meadow View room is nicely at the end and with, as the name suggests, a pleasant view.

We started out in the Robin's Roost Rm. which was nicely decorated with fresh paint. Shortly after we arrived in the room we noticed that the toilet fill valve kept cycling on and off. We mentioned this to the caretaker and she said she would check it out when we went to dinner but said that we could change rooms if we would like to. She tried to fix the problem but it continued to cycle on and off so we took her up on her offer and changed rooms. The new room was just a lovely as the first so we were very happy we changed rooms.
Later in the evening there was a water leak in their commercial coffee pot and it turned out that water continued to leak on the countertops and kitchen floor until the plumber came out to fix it but the caretaker once again went out of her way to make sure we had freshly brewed coffee the old fashion way despite the fact that she was continually mopping up the water and trying to stop the leak.
Despite the problems we felt very cared for and had a great stay with them and probably will return in the future.
The breakfast was excellent and the service couldn't have been better.

Hospitality (cherry bottle, DVDs, living rooms, outdoor sitting, chimney, kitchen - all at our disposal), comfortable rooms (had king size bed in a king sized room with garden view, jaccuzzi, massage shower) and 3 course breakfast. Just 1 night on our long road trip - but what a nice change after 5 motels in a row. 168 dollars, tax included, may sound much, but it is so much difference to a Best Western Plus !

We stayed in the Hummingbird room which was comfortable and had a shower for disabled ( if you need it) The Breakfast was delicious with plenty of coffee or tea.The keep cookies and pastries on the counter at all times It had a family feel to it and a relaxing atmosphere. We don't like our room cleaned every day and they never bothered us. It was a sweet weekend.

We stayed here in late September, it was very nice. While writing this review I've noticed another about the same place saying it's generic with only occasional contact with owners, I could not disagree, when we arrived there was nobody at home. The house was open and we wandered about until we found a sign informing us to call via a phone in the sun room. The owner turned up and because it was so late in the day, ie: 5pm we were able to negotiate a better price as all cheaper rooms had gone. It is more like a small hotel to be fair, but you do get a great breakfast.

Room Tip: Take your chances by turning up late in afternoon to get a better price.

We stayed in Bidwell House for three days and it was rather unpleasant experience. This is more of a generic small hotel than a bed-and-breakfast. The contact with owners is sporadic. Our room (Rose) was dated, with unusable chairs. In the bathroom, there was no fan and you had to open window sacrificing your privacy (no curtains!). Food mediocre, the same every other day. On the last day, the room was not cleaned (the owner apologized though and refunded about $20). Not recommended.
