Owner description: A small, local trekking company offering overnight/multi-night trips into the remote jungle of the Khao Yai National Park. Born and raised in the area, the owner/guide is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife to be found there. If you are looking for something a little different to the standard tour of the park, this is for you. Homestay is also available for those wishing to experience a genuine Thai way of life.

We saw lots of monkeys and beautiful scenery in Khao Yai National Park! This was well worth the almost $100 price per person. You travel 2 hours outside of the city ( or more depending on the horrendous traffic in Bangkok), then you reach the park. It's just so much fun! Monkeys everywhere! Fun! (lots of walking, stairs, etc...)

With a ranger, we discovered a lot of animals we wouldn't have seen in the rainforest. Start early a trekking is mandatory.

Thank you both for taking us on a nice jungle-trip in Khao Yai!
It surely was exciting to hear (and see) a wild elephant, as well as the deadly snake, the gibbons high up in the figue tree,.. and the tour searching for elephants in the old school landroover ;-)
We already miss Thailand's adventures..

This is the real deal if you are looking for a successful wildlife experience in the Khaoyai National Park!.My first national park experience was part of a tour package organized by Khaoyai Nature Life and Tours Resort, which is available as a one and half day package for those interested to explore the vast and oldest national park in Thailand with English speaking guides. I really did not know what to expect but was told that if I am really lucky, I would be able to see some of the wildlife in their natural surroundings. As elephants were my favorite animal, I was hoping that I would at least get a glimpse of them in the wild because all I have been able to see were those in zoos or elephant camps where they have already been broken and trained.

We started very early in the morning after breakfast at the resort and were well on the half hour ride by open 4x4 to the national park. Our guides paid the fare for entry to the park which is already included into the tour package price. The Khaoyai Nature Life and Tour Resort provides very good guides that have a very keen eye for the wildlife and explained all along the way about the places we will go and things we could possibly see. Our first stop was at the highest viewpoint of the park that presented a magnificent view of the valley and mountains in the early morning light. We were also greeted by a friendly bunch of residential monkeys who were hoping for a handout but feeding them is not encouraged. We also saw our first great horn-bill in flight here, which was a good start to the morning. We were also given leech socks to wear but there were no leeches since it was the dry season, thank goodness for that!

We were then brought to the national park information center for a quick use of the extremely clean and modern toilets! We could also buy souvenirs here or have a cup of coffee, then our guide "Jib" spotted a turtle basking on a tree trunk in the river which was another great sight for us. He gave us the name of the turtle species which was one more thing I learned! We then proceeded to the entrance way leading to a 4km gradual downhill walk in the jungle. Here Jib our guide displayed his immense knowledge of the flora and fauna of the national park. We were shown fantastic monkey seat mushrooms, 100 year old sandal wood trees, rare flora and his sharp eyes rewarded us with an unusual sighting of the Thai national bird, the Siamese Fireback which is a member of the pheasant family. This bird is fast and ran across the road in part of the trek! We were very lucky because this bird is one of the most difficult to find and spot in the national park! We had plenty of water supplied to us all along the way plus fresh fruit as snacks.

We also visited two waterfalls of which one was used by the actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the film "The Beach". To have a better look youc can hike down about a kilometer or just take a look from the vantage-point depending on your stamina level. We also saw barking deers, white hand gibbons which again are difficult to spot, many varieties of birds, more barking deers basking by the river banks and finally on the way back we were rewarded by the sight of elephants. One was feeding in the bush which our guide was very sharp to spot as by the time the next group got there it had already returned to the undergrowth and the next sighting was at a salt lick near the savannah grass plains. Both sightings were spectacular to watch and these elephants do not react in the same way as those that are domesticated or kept in zoos!

We had plenty to eat and drink all along the way, including a very nice lunch at the park information center. Our guides were first rate and we went back to the resort tired but well rewarded with our sightings of a total 14 different species of wildlife! I have to recommend that the tours organized by the Khaoyai Nature /life and Tour Resort was one of the better ones as I noticed that their guides were always the first to spot a wildlife and then only followed by others. They also spoke very good English and German with the other guest we had along for the trip. All-in-all, this one full day tour of the Khaoyai National Park was one of the most enlightening and truly rewarding experience. I hope to return again soon to try their other expeditions for birdwatching activities where I hope to have the chance to see some rare species of birds!

A one day trek was an excellent introduction to the beautiful Khao Yai National Park with Deaw as a guide. A very small group and a local guide are the only way to see and experience the park as Deaws knowledge took us off the main tourist track (which was busy with other large groups) and deep in to the jungle. With just a few of us we kept the noise to a minimum and this allowed Deaw to listen for birds, and most excitingly he recognised the sound of an elephant about 400 metres away. A really good day and I would certainly go back, and probably manage an overnight trek now as there was so much to see and experience, all under the safe guidance of Deaw!

Thank you Liz, I'm glad you enjoyed the trek. That elephant was really quite a find. We'll hold you to that promise for an overnight one next time!
