The food here is prepared to order. It hasn't been sitting in pool of grease on a steam table for God knows how long. The food is what I associate with Cantonese style. The vegetables are fresh and crisp. The sauces are light and tasty, not a heavy combo of too much soy sauce, gooey cornstarch thickener, and excessive oil. Service is quick and friendly--the server is at your table immediately and returns in a few minutes with your food, but there is never a rush for you to leave. Whenever I want a quick, healthy, lunch or dinner, I come here. For $6-7$ I order from the meal menu, which is an entree, rice, and spring roll. Try the almond chicken: it is a very generous plate full of chicken combined with fresh, cooked-just-right celery, bok-choy stems, and similar vegetables with plenty of crunchy almonds in a light clear sauce. There are no frozen peas and diced carrots from a plastic bag. In the time I can go to one of those panda places, I can get healthier, better prepared, delicious food, with table service on a real plate with metal utensils for panda prices. There are no plastic trays, styrofoam plates, and plastic utensils. And there is no residual pool of cooking oil separating from a thick gravy beneath the food.

China 8 is located in a local shopping mall. They have a large store front with wall to wall seating at tables and booths. It's very casual and not highly decorated but people don't go there for a dining experience. They have great food at affordable prices. I've been there many times. Everything they prepare is always consistently good. The entree portions are always equal and generous. The lunch specials are inexpensive and filling. the fried rice and lo mien noodles served with the lunch specials always taste good.

Although there are some Chinese buffets and other chains to go to China 8 food keeps customers coming back. Sunday afternoons finds them turning over tables for hours with families and couples lining up. the staff is always friendly and always manage to offer quick service. There has been some competition in the area in past years but instead of losing business it brought China 8 more customers. You won't find great ambience, a wine list or bar, just good food and affordable prices. Take out is an option.

We're used to Asian restaurants and food back east in New York and New Jersey. China 8 makes food we order in the same manner which is difficult to find out here.

Really, c'mon.. Try the Panda Express next door. You'll be happier and healthier for that decision. We met a middle-aged couple leaving the restaurant and asked them how he food was, and they said they had eaten there for 18 years. They kept stressing how cheap the food was. God bless their dulled sense of taste. No wonder they were parked in the handicapped zone. Now I understand.

The restaurant seemed very dingy and dirty, and the place was very busy. The cleanest thing we found in the restaurant was the pre-wrapped fortune cookie from LA.

I ordered a simple dish... egg foo yung...it looked like powdered egg and bean sprouts deep fried: this was accompanied by a drenching of McCormick powdered gravy mix.. Dinner companion ordered chow mein and they managed to screw that up too. How do you screw up sliced vegetables and noodles? Drown it in soy sauce, that's how. Welcome to the salt-lick.

If cheap food is your sole incentive, you are 100% right in choosing to eat here. However, if the quality and cleanliness of your food is important skip this place and keep looking. The food made us both sick. Suggest that you may want to keep the Poison Control Center on speed-dial #1 and Eisenhower ER on speed-dial #2.

Lesson learned.

The China 8 is one of the desert's best-kept secrets. It's nothing special as far as atmosphere is concerned (typical of family-run Asian restaurants) but they do a great job on the food, the pricing is incredible, and portions are very generous.

No need to look beyond page 1 of the menu, where they list about 10 "dinner specials" that are priced at an almost unbelievable $5.95 for an entree, rice or lo main noodles, egg roll and soft drink.

Whenever we feel like going out but want to go casual and economical, the China 8 is always one of our top choices.
