When I pulled in, I thought it was a mistake, A pretty nondescript strip mall, and yet...EVERY single thing looked/sounded delicious. Edamame wontons? Papitas w special spices? Korean tacos? Fish tacos? Even the hand cut sweet potato fries with the hint of cinnamon and maple made appetizers work. for all.
But more importantly were the genuine entree-sized bowls served over. ancient grains/white rice/or raw greens, the burritos, the wraps and the salads... Like California itself, Chinollo defines fusion. The sandwiches alone demonstrate a multi-cultural reach: Pork Belly Banh Mi, several grass fed burger, a Mojo Cubano, a chicken sandwich AND a meat free burger all thoughtfully dressed.
And the bowls -- they range from Thai-inflected to Indian, South American to farm veggies. One friend had the poke bowl (and loved it), another went with the Korean steak (and was thrilled).
To touch so many cuisines and do it with adventure and still maintain a modicum of authenticity could be Chinollo's greatest gift. Although doing it at a reasonable price point, while maintaining such incredible quality is why they may be the best kept secret in San Pedro!
