“Outdoor Dining in Carmel Valley Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Very nice place to eat Mexican/Salvadorian food! White table clothes, everyone is friendly! Food well priced and great chips/salsa. They even had tequila tastings - great!! It hit the spot after hiking in Garland Ranch.

“Was in withdrawals, no Mexican food for 10 days...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

have been w/o a good Mexican food fix for 10 days as I was traveling in Europe and not much in the way of Mexican style food there...

went to Plaza Linda out in Carmel Valley Village...about 12 miles off of Highway One...

as others have mentioned this is a fairly new location for them...and quite nice, though not having been to the old/original location I have no comparison...

greeted upon entry by the waiter, son of the family that owns/runs the place...got some beers,, 2 Negra Modelo, on tap and a N/A St. Pauli Girl) he was prompt with the chips, served in a great wrought iron basket, welcome change from the usual plastic or woven ones you usually see...

ordered off the extensive menu, 2 of us went for one of the 12 or so combo plates...one enchilada of choice (the best, tastiest shredded chicken), with a chile rellenos, black beans and rice w/garnish and tomato wedge...the other just opted for ala carte enchilada w/rice and beans...

all came out promptly on very nice large round white places...I'm a big believer in presentation and they got that down very good...

food was at least as good as it looked, I like it spicy, so asked if they had another salsa that was 'hotter', they didn't, but quickly and effectively spiced up the salsa they serve with chips...YUM...

all in all was a great dinner...there is outdoor seating w/fire pit...indoor bar, full license, spacious seating, not crowded at all...music on some nights...they also have a sign out front that says 'tequila tasting'...

prices were very reasonable, for the quality and quantity of the food...

for all of the above the bill was 60$, the combo plates were at 14.95 each...so that was half of it right there...

go and enjoy some excellent South of the Border food...you won't be sorry...

aloha...

“Recommended for foodies and wine tasters...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Plaza Linda is not a typical Mexican restaurant, as the menu also has some El Salvadorian (less-spicy) influence. Some of the less-spicy appetizers are perfect after an afternoon of wine tasting at the neighboring tasting rooms. The bar also carries beers from nearby Carmel Valley Brewery (on tap) which only produces their fine beers in very limited batches. The "sea nachos' are a delicious variation on typical nachos, not too spicy, shellfish as the primary meats, and perfect following a wine tasting excursion. Ditto for the guacamole (chunky and seasoned to perfection). Service was excellent, as well.

“An updated Carmel Valley tradition....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

First, they are no longer at 9 Del Fino Place - they are a couple of blocks away on Carmel Valley Road. The picture of the restaurant is correct, though.

The PL has been in the Valley since the early 50s, I believe. It was run by several generations of the Diaz family until it was sold a few years ago.

The new owners have greatly improved the quality and variety of the food. While described as a Mexican restaurant, it is more Hispanic with a Salvadoran influence. Full bar, great home made margaritas, great food, good service, and regular low key entertainment.

Been there 8 or 9 times and never disappointed. Staged a speical event there and it went off without a hitch.

“Authetic mexican food! Great service & location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Now this is the way mexican food is supposed to taste! They first served us homemade chips that were still warm. The salsa was fresh & not too hot for my wife. The margaritas were homemade as well with real lime juice & not a bottled mix. Very tasty.

For lunch, I had the beef enchilada & chili relleno combo. Very tasty. Fresh ingredients! The refried beans were very tasty & so was the rice. A very nice dish. My wife had the carnitas in which the pork was succulent & not overcooked.

This was a nice restaurant with upscale decor. They had recently moved from their location of many years to one on the main road downtown. Very nicely decorated & upscale. We will return here when in the area!
