“Fresh delicious american food in a casual bistro”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

This bistro is located in the Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley. The food is basic American. Gourmet burgers, seared tuna, free range chicken all served with french fries and salad are items on the menu. The food is well prepared and fresh. I had the chicken that was juicy and flavorful. I had homemade ice cream for dessert. Three different flavors that were delicious. The service is attentive and friendly.

“Brilliant views, charming location, delectable French Fries”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Wickets is one of the best places to eat lunch in the Carmel area.

The outdoor dining combines great views, good food and a chance to play croquet or bowls. Indeed, you get all of the benefits of a luxurious hotel, a highly rated restaurant and a spectacular location for a very sensibly priced lunch.

The menu is limited but excellent and comes from the same kitchen as the highly rated Marinus restaurant. The wine list is encyclopedic and has a large selection of wines by the glass.

So when it's foggy in Carmel/Pebble Beach, put on some sunscreen, your favorite Croquet outfit, and drive out to Bernardus Lodge to eat at Wicket's. Before lunch, head for the Croquet lawn to work up an appetite with your favorite cocktail or a glass of champagne. Then the loser can pay for lunch as you enjoy a flat iron steak and french fries that will remind you of the best "steack-frites" you ever had in Paris. The fries are double cooked to perfection and are worth the drive!

In the evenings, you might see a posse of black Chevy suburbans manned by crewcut types with earpieces as our SecDef dines at Wickets with some of his family or house guests. He is convivial and eclectic and seems to prefer the informality of Wickets to the more formal (and definitely much slower!) Marinus...

“Great Informal Bistro”
Reviewed May 26, 2012

LIghter fare and more casual atmosphere than Marinus across the hall (at Bernardus Lodge), but dishes were created by Cal Stamenov all the same. Somewhat reminiscent of the Grill Room at the Pebble Beach Lodge, but with better food. Great mixologist.

Reviewed May 25, 2012

We decided to see if the offered. Cheese plate. They didn't. We asked if they could make one. They brought us a lovely plate of cheeses and crackers with wonderful sweet nuts. It was the picture of perfect. The ambience of our privte room and the fire and time alone together were just h we were looking for.
