“Charming Carmel village”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

This french bistro/farmhouse setting is a small eatery in the iconic village. the surprisingly long wine list is a contrast to the rather limited menu selections of about 6 unique pizzas ( which they are known for) and one selection for beer, chicken, fish and pasta. the food was good, not stellar, but the service was great and setting cute. We went early in the evening, but it was getting crowded by later in the evening.

“Just Wonderful”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I can't believe i'm the first person reviewing this restaurant. We found it by accident and decided to give it a try. We had a wonderful pizza and risotto. They have a very good menu, very fresh ingredients and very imaginative pizza's. We had the Butternut Squash sage, gruyère, speck ham, arugula, butternut squash purée. We also had pepper & saffron risotto, garlic chips, pecorino cheese, opal basil. The menu changes daily so check on it. It has French and italian food. We enjoyed it so much we went back for breakfast which was just also great. They cook their eggs in the pizza oven, never had that before, and they were really good. They make their bread in house and also their jam. How can you go wrong. If you are in Carmel this is a must.

“Couldn't have asked for a better meal, service, or experience!”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

I've been dining at La Bicyclette for almost 4 years.. I haven't left a review recently because they are a vendor on my food tour, and I assume it will filter it out. Last night was so noteworthy, however, I have to try:

My husband and I were seated at a 2-top in the corner. About 10 minutes after we arrived, a table of 4 was seated halfway across the restaurant. They proceeded to talk very loudly, and their shrieks of laughter (yes you, the lady in purple) were blood-curdling. After another several minutes of the surrounding tables staring, glaring, and talking about them, I said something to the maitre'd. He waited until they did it again (it didn't take long), and asked them to be conscious of their fellow diners. They pitched a fit, made sure that even the chef was gifted a new a**hole, and left. The tables around us were grateful, and I had one of the best meals ever (no surprise there).

I was happier, but felt guilty for saying anything because I know that they hate to lose any customer. All I can say is that with a room full of contented diners, they only lost a battle - and won the war. Here's to another 198 visits!

“Small menu but big on flavor!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Wish we were traveling with a group because I wanted to try most of the items on the menu. For breakfast, hubby had the House-Corned Beef Hash which was very good. The meat was flavorful, not fatty, huge chunks of meat (hint of cinnamon) with nicely cooked red bliss potatoes served in a shallow earthen ware dish. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the fact the earthen ware is placed in an oven with eggs on top of the meat and potatoes and it comes out really hot. So, the eggs that were cooked to medium end up completely cooked by the time you finish your breakfast. My breakfast was equally good, The Village Combo. Poached eggs on french bread toast served with a lovely tomato jam that perfectly offset the fresh heirloom tomatoes, undressed baby arugula salad and sliced avocado. The only thing a bit disappointing was that the eggs were not poached in a bath of water they were poached in an egg-poaching pan and were visually unappealing. Will definitely go back. Line out the door on the weekends.

“Un repas excellent”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

What a wonderful, casual and relaxing restaurant this is. You just have to close your eyes for a moment and then reopen your eyes............you are in Paris! The cuisine is delicious and varied. You can choose from 6 great pizzas such as their Local Champignon which has portabella, cremini and oyster mush puree, truffle pecorino, thyme....or the Wild Prawn &Spicy Coppa (which we had) and was it delicious.....prawns, garlic, arugula, basil and pecorino to Prime Steaks, Charcuterie tastings, fish of the day, chicken, fromage and an extensive wine list. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and have tables for up to 8 people. An additional tip, this restaurant has a sister French restaurant called Casanova which is more intimate and very suitable for couples and romantic dinners. For Casanove I would recommend reservations.
