Nice older Hotel (like alot in Carmel), but recently renovated rooms, so it was clean. Our room had a separate living room when you walked in, then a bathroom & bedroom. Everything worked fine. Furniture was a little dated, & was a little musty smelling when we first walked in, but we opened windows & all was fine after that. Outside flowers were beautiful.
Breakfast was delivered in a cooler which included alot of food for 2 people. Nice touch.
Location was great-right in the middle of town. We walked everywhere. Flying Fish Grille was just a block or 2 away (good food).
Very quaint. I was worried about it being an older building, but I think everything worked out just fine. Only problem was a very small parking lot, but we squeezed in!! Nice people too!

The Wayside Inn is not only beautiful and immaculate, the staff are all wonderful. We stayed in a deluxe room (23) with a very romantic double jacuzzi, fireplace, and CD player that even came with "mood music" CDs! We forgot about the great little breakfast that came in the morning-what a treat! We really enjoyed an afternoon glass of wine on our patio overlooking the street. We cannot say enough wonderful things about this inn, nor can we wait to come back!!!

Family members booked our one night stay whilst we were driving the PCH on Route 1. The Wayside Inn is in Carmel on the Monterey Peninsula, The Inn was extremely well apointed, furnishings, bedding and bathroom excellent. Breakfast was supplied at the door of the room in a picnic bag and there was a coffee machine in the room.
We felt that the attention to detail was excellent and our stay was extremely comfortable.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the Wayside Inn.

Having stayed in July, and was thoroughly impressed, I decided to return and booked my annual ladies' getaway here. Suite 16, the family unit, was perfect and offered a mini kitchen (no oven unfortunately). The 2-bedroom and 2-bath unit is their biggest unit, so I would book early since I'm sure it's pretty popular with families and groups.

Although the unit wasn't brand new and was worn in some places, we all liked the french feel of it. Their beds were pretty comfortable (it had some sort of down topper, which offered a great night's sleep!) I just wished they had a couch area for lounging and more parking spots since parking's tight in downtown carmel.

The Wayside has great proximity to everything. On the way to your room, be sure to swipe those fresh baked cookies in the lobby. I would stay here again and enjoyed my return visit!

The staff at the Wayside inn were professional and helpful but more impersonal than at the B&B's we have stayed in around California. Our suite was a little expensive but very nice and very clean. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever experienced!!! Location is good and close to shops and 15 minute walk to the gorgeous beach. Breakfast coolbag was left outside door each morning - nice but nothing special.

Had a two night stay here in late August.

Our room was located on the upper floor of the rear building - probably the best location you could have at the hotel. The room was as described in other reviews - fairly spacious, large kitchen-like area with a fridge, toaster, etc. Our room had two very comfortable queen size beds with amazingly thick pillow-tops on them.

I was a bit disappointed in the rather ancient TV in the armoire, but I guess they haven't gotten around to updating it yet - having said that we didn't hang around the room too much and watch TV anyway, so it didn't really matter.

The room was quiet (except for a bit of neighbour noise).

Check in was quick and easy, and the reception area is nice with cookies and coffee available at most times during the day.

I only have two criticisms, but maybe I'm just trying to find fault where none exists. Firstly, the bathroom window fronts directly onto the outdoor hallway at the back. This is a very, very low-traffic area, and the window has been made somewhat oblique by rippling. However - they really should put a curtain or blinds up, because it is quite easy to see anyone in the bathroom, through the window. Someone can easily have a glance while walking past .

Secondly, I was disappointed in the breakfast. The bagels were hard, heavy, white bread bagels - rather tasteless. And the pastries were bland as well. We could have used two fruit cups and maybe a bit more variation in the cereals as well.

All in all - a pretty good stay except for those two things. I'd definitely stay here again, and that's probably the best praise I can give a place.

The initial impression of our room at the inn was not good.We booked on their website and were given a room tucked on the second floor which was wood paneled and dark and dingy. We immediately requested a change and were graciously accommodated and put in another building which had recently been remodeled. Our room was plush with two queen beds covered in luxurious linens. The rooms were spacious with a separate area with a refrigerator and microwave. Each morning a basket containing muffins, cereal and fresh fruit along with a newspaper was left outside of our door. In the evening there were cookies in the lobby along with coffee and hot tea. I hated to leave and I cannot wait to return. It was the perfect room in a perfect location. I have stayed in Carmel many, many times over the past 40 years and this was the best overall.
