“Great service, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2009

We stayed here four nights in three rooms over the Christmas holidays with extended family. The gentleman at the desk went out of his way to be helpful. The rooms were tastefully redecorated. One of our rooms was really two rooms (one king, two twins), with a door between. It had two baths, two TV's and one exit door. It worked perfectly for 3 adults and one child and was much more reasonable than any options we found at other motels. All our rooms were on the ground floor of the upper level and we had no problem with noise. The location is great for walking to galleries, shops, restaurants and the beach. Big Sur, Monterey and Point Lobos are easy driving distance.

We stayed in one of the four rooms at the back of the hotel (request rooms 328-331...328 is next to the pool so it might not be the room to be in during warmer weather). There were parking spaces allotted to those rooms (covered). The room was nicely decorated. The bathroom was a nice size. Housekeeping does a very good job. We stayed for five nights and rarely heard our neighbor through the adjoining wall. The toilet does make a lot of noise when it is flushed. I actually jumped the first few times I heard it flush. There is a ceiling fan (with 1/2 blades) and a nice size portable fan as well. We used the ethernet cable for internet connection. The man at the front desk was helpful. A very basic continental breakfast is available. The price of the room was very reasonable for Carmel. Just a block away is a great restaurant called Em Le's.

We had a really great price with our AAA membership directly with Best Western. So we were quite surprise to see such a nice "motel type" hotel with newly renovated, small but confortable room for that price. Free parking, free internet and free breakfast on top of it !!!

The man who was at the reception was nice and professional when we arrived. And was very helpful when we phoned because of the noise in our room. Seemed to come from a fan or heating system even if it was off. He fixed it in an instant and seemed exactly to know what the problem was. Good thing that noise was a bit annoying ! So we were able to get a nice and calm night of sleep.

The location is also great since we can walk to shops, gallery and restaurants easily from here. So park the car and enjoy the town !

Don't arrive at night since Carmel is not well lit, it becomes a little more difficult to find the streets name.

After an 8 hour drive from las vegas i was greated at reception by an unfriendly abrupt female, guessing she is a relation of the owner or manager.Room was renovated but bathroom very small, shower only no tub. Loud noise from heating system in the room walls even though my heater was off. Traffic noise also from busy street. Housekeeping staff were excellent and very peasant, too bad the owners/manager were not the same. Would not recommend and will not stay again, it's too noisy and the staff in the office were not friendly. Don't be swayed by the lower room prices, much better places to stay in Carmel for a bit more.

This Carmel hotel is hard to rate because of the delta between it's potential and where it is right now. I would call and ask on my complaint items before you book! Otherwise, it could be a great place! The location and the size of the rooms are excellent, as is the cleanliness. The complaints I had were:
1. Terrible lighting--ridiculously low wattage! Impossible for shaving and make-up application. Such an easy fix, but will they do it? We did speak to the manager on duty about this as a suggestion that basically disqualifies this hotel for future stays for us.
2. Slippage in the tub/shower. This needs addressing for safety.
3. Construction at the lot next door--when will this be done in relation to your travel dates?

Based on these issues, I had to give the place a 3, wish I could have done 2 1/2! With just a couple tweaks, (and the construction issue if you want quiet between 8-5--not a big deal for us as we were site seeing during the days), I would give the place a 5!! Big difference I know!

The updates to the hotel were stylish, the bed comfortable, the room exceptionally roomy for the price point. The vanity area was a retrofit into an old closet alcove--too deep and not appropriately lighted, even if the wattage was increased. You can't get near the mirror as the vanity is beautiful, but very deep. Someone forgot to factor in functionality with their redeco design! Other lighting is dim, but OK. They need non-skid strips or mat in the tub/shower area.

Stayed here for a brief stopover for the night. Rooms are basic but have everything you need and have been recently refurbished. You're one block from the main street and about 4 from the beach.

Stayed here just the one night and found it to ideal for our purposes. The room was recently refurbished and much nicer than the exterior suggested. The kids enjoyed the pool and we could walk to the beach and shops easily. Complementary breakfast was fine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had no problems using the free wifi . Motel style meant than we had some noise from late arriving neighbours but overall a great stay for the money.
