“A surprisingly pretty, quiet room for us and our cat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

Our king premium poolside room (pet friendly, on the ground floor) was very pretty, with lovely décor and a very nice rainshower. The soundproofing was excellent. We never heard our neighbors, and the soundproofing and hedge in front of our room greatly muffled the sounds from the kids playing in the pool. My husband enjoyed the buffet breakfast ($12 if you select it at check-in, $15 if you don't, neither includes juices), and I really liked the huevos rancheros, which were surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. There are 2 computers that you can use near the front desk for free, with fast Internet speed. I was really surprised to overhear that they don't guarantee rooms for you if you check in after 10 P.M., even if you leave a credit card guarantee. I find that inexcusable, so be prepared. There was a one-time $35 pet fee. We were disappointed to see that no pets can be left unattended in rooms unless they're in cages. When you place a Do Not Disturb sign on your door, I just don't see why we couldn't leave our sleeping cat and go out together to explore this beautiful area. It was only about a 7 minute drive to gorgeous Pt. Lobos, and it's even closer to pretty Carmel (good shopping and dining and a lovely white sand beach). The wonderful Rio Grill is right across the street in the Crossroads Shopping Center, with really good and creative food. Behind the hotel, you can get very good Japanese food at the Robata Grill in the Barnyard Shopping Center. There is a new Starbucks across Rio Road in the Crossroads Shopping Center, with a good selection of things for breakfast or lunch. There is a gas station right next door. It sounds unattractive being next to a gas station and 2 shopping centers, but it isn't. It's discretely placed off the road and is a quiet environment. The pool is not big, but there are nice sunbathing beds and several foam tanning mattresses in the water for tanning or for the kids to jump on. If you prefer to swim laps, you need to do this in the morning. The people at the front desk were always friendly.

This hotel is a nice place for 125.00 per night. They charge 441.00 last night and it was way over priced!! When I pay that kind of money I expect the best!! No spa, nothing extra at all!! They except dogs and let them bark all night!! I have stayed in Hampton Inns all over the world and they are way better than this and less than half the price! CARMEL??? Really??? Thats how you get away with charging outrageous prices for a mediocre hotel?? The Breakfast was buffet was nothing to write home about 15$! NO WONT BE COMING BACK!!!!!
Drive the extra hour to the bay area for a much less expensive place!!!!

Returned again to the Carmel Mission Inn….4 years in a row now, 5 years total. We attend the Carmel Bach Festival every July and this location at Rio Road and Hwy 1 can't be beat - just blocks from the three main venues - and you don't need to get tangled in the village-centered traffic to get in and out of your place - great location across from a shopping center with grocery and drug stores. Inevitably, the best value in town as well and one of the few in this town with free parking. A nice sized room with refrigerator (thank you!), and we get the special that includes drinks in the evening and a very nice breakfast buffet every morning. A real treat to walk steps from the room and enjoy a full breakfast before heading out for the delights of the Monterey Peninsula, Pacific Grove, Carmel and Big Sur. Restaurant and bar onsite and room service. Very friendly staff, free wi-fi and pet-friendly.

Room Tip: A 4 story hotel, floors 2 and 3 are cheapest. You can pay extra for a small lanai by the pool on the...

We absolutely loved our stay at this place. The room was clean, big with 2 queen beds, a modern bathroom and for us a balcony facing the pool on the fourth floor (highest level). The hotel had all the amenities we needed including a safe, a fridge, a restaurant for breakfast and supper, a gym, plenty of free parking and a rare, large, clean and trendy pool and spa. The hotel entry is difficult to find but it is only a few minutes away from Carmel-by-the-sea, a beautiful village with beautiful boutiques and restaurants , a great beach (wetsuit required), 10 minutes away from Pebble Beach and the 17-mile scenic drive, 15 minutes from Monterey and about a half-hour from Big Sur. The room was cleaned early and service was great at both Check-in and Check-out.

Room Tip: Fourth floor with a balcony facing the pool and not highway.

I made a reservation in May to stay at the hotel on July 26th. I called on July 24th to inform the hotel management that we would be checking in late (after 10 pm) and to keep our room for us. I was told "no problem, we will keep the room for you".
When we arrived at the hotel after 11 pm, we were told there was no room for us, that they had to give the room to some foreigners with a voucher. The explanation given to us by the front desk manager/hostess did not make sense and was delivered to us in a very indifferent manner.
The front desk manager did find another room for us 8 miles away and did comp the room for us but we were disappointed with the treatment we received after going to the trouble of letting them know we would be late.

Our stay at this hotel was quite nice. As others have stated, the hotel is right off highway 1, and a very short drive to Carmel-by-the-Sea and also to Monterey. We visited the area for two days, and enjoyed our stay. We opted-out of the pre-pay breakfast, as we felt it was a bit pricey. We were also allowed to check in about an hour early which was very accommodating. Our group of 8 had two rooms that included four children ages 10 to 17. After a long day at the Aquarium and exploring in Pacific Grove, we arrived back to our room about 9:00 p.m. We wanted to order pizzas at the pizza shop behind the hotel, but they closed at 8:30 p.m. on a Monday night. If you are thinking of picking up a quick bite at a fast food restaurant in the area, you will be out of luck. The desk clerk at the hotel explained that the city of Carmel did not allow fast food restaurants in their town. Our desk clerk was so helpful and started calling pizza places in Monterrey to try find us an option for delivery without having to drive back there so late. Thankfully she found an option for us that did not even charge a delivery fee (Pelican Pizza). She even asked the food be delivered to us at the pool. We really appreciated her going above and beyond to help us out, and get the families fed.

The only draw-back to our ground level room was the absence of a shower curtain. Although the look of it is rather cool and modern, it's functionality is not the best. No matter what we tried, it felt like the entire bathroom floor was wet after a shower.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, as the staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The rooms were spacious and clean, if not fancy, and we really liked being right off of highway 1 south of Carmel. This made our 3 day exploration of Point Lobos and Big Sur very accessible compared to basing ourselves further north in Monterey, and we were a short 3 minute drive into Carmel proper for a lovely dinner. (The hotel's restaurant had a great dinner service, too). We traveled with a baby and a senior citizen and were very impressed by the staff. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We liked our room on the top floor and not overlooking the pool, which can be noisy at night.
