On our 25th anniversary, we decided to rent the cottages that we always dreamt of going to when we were first married. At the time, we were kids in our early 20's and couldn't afford to stay here, but 25 years later, we decided to make the trip.
The cottages look exactly the same. Very quaint, clean, and pet friendly as is most of the surrounding area. Flowers and well kept grounds with kind and inviting staff members who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. My daughter called the front desk and helped her pick out a cake from the local bakery and they picked it up for her. They had it in our room waiting for us. So kind, and the cake was gorgeous.
My dogs had bowls and bedding waiting for them in the cottage itself. We stayed in the Blue Bird Cottage, facing the street. It was so pretty. The floors were wooden and had a little creek to them, but that only added to the charm. Upstairs had two small beds and a windows that looked out towards the trees and the street. Streets are nice here.
My daughter also bought the beach bonfire package for us, which included some chairs, wood, kindling. It was nice out and the fire was perfect. The beach at the end of the street was just as we recalled. White sandy beaches with cypress trees. The view was amazing as always and the beach was dog friendly, BUT CLEAN.
Carmel is VERY dog friendly, but also very nice and well maintained.
The rooms upstairs had a fan which was suffice if you opened the window to get some movement. There was a small refrigerator and the tiled bathroom did not have a tub; but that was okay. The water was not very hot, however we did not expect it to be and the pressure was a little weak (the unit is old and charming). The windows downstairs opened to the street on one side and the garden on the other. The king sized bed was very comfortable. They had a portable air conditioner that did the trick for us. It doesn't get very hot, so the small a/c unit was fine.
This was a relaxing trip for us. It was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. The room had wine waiting for us and it was very nice. The reception, daily, was, well... okay at best, with some cheese and wine. But again, the staff was friendly and several occupants sat around the fire pit and talked a bit. It was great. The breakfast was one of those quickie kind of snack stations set up near the fire pit, but it didn't matter because just up the street was the most fabulous breakfast restaurant in town.
We WILL return. This place is definitely one for our books. Freeway close, quite, quaint, clean, pet friendly, beach is walking distance, shops everywhere, just the whole package.
You won't go wrong if you stay here. Thanks Guys!!
