Great location. Amazing staff. Extremely comfy bed. We stayed in Bluebird cottage. Great space for a family. King bed down and twins upstairs. Cute cottage. A bit of a throwback in a wonderful way. Fun wine and cheese hour around fire pit. Staff even had treats for our kiddos. Even sent a tray of cookies and cider back to cottage for them. The art of hospitality is not lost here. Lamplighter has it down pat. Highly recommended.

Thank you for the review. We enjoyed having your family as our guests. I know sometimes family accommodations can be tough to find, we promise to keep the BlueBird cottage family friendly. See you next trip,

If it wasn't for the kind staff and the great rooms at the Lamplighter Inn, we probably would have left Carmel on our second day (that is another story). The Lamplight Inn is super pet friendly, and they did everything to help accommodate us and our pet's needs. Even helping us to find an outlet so we can use our high powered blower to get the sand out of our Samoyed. They gave us access to the resorts kitchen so we can get ice to help keep our dog's water cold.

Mel, Peggy and Cindy went out of their way to make everyone staying at the inn feel welcomed and took care of any concern or question the guests had. They also made sure you had a place to eat every night by recommending a local restaurant and even had coupons to help with the bill. They are very knowledgably about local things to do and even recommended daily activities.

We stayed in the Sea Lion room and it was spacious and very comfortable. The only issue we had with the room is the shower and the low water pressure but we were told that this unit and the Sea Otter were going to get bathroom make overs to take care of this.

The rooms are super clean, up to day on modern furnishings and even has a working fireplace. Great views as well.

The inn serves a light breakfast every morning and it was delicious. Wine and cheese every night was a plus. At this time of year, the resort was very quiet... very calming.

The inn can also sell you a kit so you can have a fire on the beach. It included 2 chairs, towels, blanket, flashlight, cooler, fire wood and starter and a bottle of their own wine. It was a perfect ending to our trip.

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The open gas fire pit is wonderful on chilly mornings or nights.

If you are traveling with a pet, this is the resort for you... They will make every accommodation for you and I never felt "stressed" about having our pet at this resort.

All we can say is "thank you" to Peg, Mel and Cindy for being such great hostesses... YOU ALL ROCK!! Thank you for making MIlo feel welcomed as well..

That review rocked! Thanks so much for the kind words. I am so glad you were able to enjoy the little beach fire kit. As a local that is one of my favorite things to do in Carmel. If we were able to keep you in Carmel an extra night, well there is no better compliment. Thank You.

We stayed here for one night en route from LA to San Francisco. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. We would definitely return.
The staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome and Peggy in particular was so welcoming. They were able to help with restaurant suggestions.
We stayed in the sea star room which was enormous. The bed was the biggest I have ever seen and the open fire in the room was so lovely. The bathroom was a clean, white suite. Despite being an old property, the room felt modern and clean.
The fire pit/communal area was fantastic and the cheese and wine on offer really helped to break the ice with the other guests. It was so nice to sit around and chat with people from all over the world. The breakfast on offer was nice and very welcome in the morning.
We already plan to return to Carmel sometime in the future.

People say that all the time. So often travelers stay for one night and tell me if they could redo the itinerary they would spend more time in Carmel. Well, you will just have to come back. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am a big fan of the fire-pit as well. I always meet someone interesting and of course sharing travel stories is always fun. We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip.
Take care,
Bobby

We decided to tack on an extra day to our vacation in San Francisco/Napa and drive down to Big Sur and Carmel. Very glad we did. The only regret is that we wasted too much time in SF and didn't come down sooner. I did a lot of research on B&Bs in Carmel before booking at the Lamp Lighter. Perfect location, good reviews and great price. The place is every bit as charming as the photos suggest, probably moreso. The staff were great with a casual California/beach attitude. Very helpful with resteraunt options and booking. Great wine/cheese reception. The grounds are fantastic in the day and night, with a geat fire pit/sitting area. The bottom line is that, if you are interested in a brand new squeaky clean hotel room, don't do a B&B in Carmel. Go to Monterray and stay at a Marriot or Hilton. My sense is that the properties are all older (the Lamp Lighter is nearly a 100 years old) and they are on the beach. So if you want charm, beach/shopping access and really unique, cool experience, this is the place! We stayed in the Bluebird cottage, which is right on Ocean Ave. We parked right outside our room. The staff who greeted was to wonderful, gave a little tour. The cottage really cute and was perfect for our party of two adults and two 13 year olds. It is in a high foot traffic area. Keep the blinds closed and you'll be fine. It seems Carmel turns in pretty early, so there isn't much distruption associated with being right on the street. I will have to say that it could use a little updating. There are some things that can't easily and shouldn't be updated in order to preserve the architecture. But, hey, it is a 100 year old beach property and with that comes some wear. So it doesn't affect my rating. We will definitely be back to Carmel and will happily book the Lamp Lighter.

My husband and I and our dog Nala spent 4 nights at the Lamp Lighter Inn in Carmel, CA and it was the most enjoyable stay we have had in a long time. It was our first time in Carmel and from the time we checked into the Lamp Lighter to our last night there, we were welcomed by and treated like family by the most friendly and professional staff. Our room we stayed in was the Concours Suite, and it was incredible! it even had a little back yard, which was welcomed by Nala. The Continental Breakfast/Happy Hour Wine and Cheese daily was delicious and fun sitting around the firepit with all the guests everyday. The Lamp Lighter is very close (within walking distance) to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I live in Southern California and our beaches will never compare to the beauty of Carmel Beach. The town is also within walking distance. You will never find a friendlier staff than the staff at the Lamp Lighter. Peggy, Heather, Mel, and Cindy are amazing and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best you will ever have. My husband, Nala, and I will definitely return to Carmel and will always stay at the Lamp Lighter. Thank you again Peggy, Heather, Mel, and Cindy for such a wonderful stay. You made us feel very special and made our Anniversay a very memorable one!! Absolutely loved the Lamp Lighter!!

Thank you for spending your anniversary with us and we are glad you had a wonderful stay. Nala was such a treat to have, always playfully guarding the property and showering all of us with her loving spirit.
The Concourse suite is a favorite of many guests and the backyard is an added touch especially when bringing your beloved pets. Thank you for sharing your experience and we sincerely hope for a return visit!!!

Just got back from celebrating our first year wedding anniversary. Our first night in Carmel we stayed at the Lamp Lighter Inn. Absolutely loved this place. Loved the courtyard for this property. Very lush and green with the lights strung which made it very relaxing and romantic. We sat by the firepit and enjoyed complimentary wine, cheese and fruit in the afternoon. We were walking distance from the beach and the adorable shops in the area. This b&b is in a great location. We really liked Peggy who runs the place and the rest of the staff were great as well. Peggy is very friendly and always smiling. Our room was very comfortable with a wood burning fireplace which made it romantic. Breakfast was a nice continental breakfast which we enjoyed in the courtyard by the firepit. When we come back to Carmel, there is no doubt that we will stay here again!!!! Thank you for making our first year wedding anniversary memorable!!!!

Our 2nd trip to the Lamp Lighter Inn and definitely not the last. We have already booked for Thanksgiving. Have stayed in two different rooms and both were just delightful and very clean. The staff couldn't be more accommodating to our every wish and were so helpful with reservations, etc. The breakfasts and the wine and cheese in the evenings were great. Our toy poodle and shihtzu loved being there too around friendly people.

Room Tip: They are all good, it just depends on what you want in beds .
