The Little Swiss cafe is by far the best breakfast/lunch place in my hometown of Carmel! Unpretentious, and fabulous food. I go there with friends, family, and by myself. Everthing on your plate tastes good. Carmel is beautiful, and I love it, but if you find yourself wandering around all the high-end shops and fancy restaurants and just want something really good, go to where us locals refer to simply as- The Swiss. You won't regret it!

I have been eating at this restaurant for at least 20 years. I grew up in Carmel, and yes this is where the locals go. They don't take credit cards, so have cash. Many of the waitresses know me, as they've worked there for decades. I always order the eggs benedict and the cheese blintzes-- I split them with my guest. The blintzes are divine, and homemade. They are served with sour cream and strawberry preserves. Their croissants are buttery and homemade. Everything is homemade and fantastic. I enjoy the cafe au lait, too.
It's a tiny restaurant but very worth the wait. It's located in the backside of the Carmel Library off Ocean Avenue.

I will lament the day that place ever closes!

The Little Swiss is a little out of the way and mostly serves locals who show up every day for breakfast and lunch. Decent prices; tourists don't find it readily. It's got the best homemade everything in town: divine soups, homemade breads and rolls, eggs benedict; thin pancakes with every conceivalbe topping, and crepes; homemade oatmeal, fresh orange juice, and for lunch huge sandwiches (always made from scratch with fresh and homecooked ingredients), and (WHO does this anymore?) liver and onions with bacon. It's a tiny, narrow place with a front and back room, and you may have to join a line on the sidewalk, but it moves quickly. Small waitstaff, two cooks; everybody affable and thoughtful. You're just as likely to be seated next to tables filled with surfers as old duffers on trust funds, sunglassed LA matrons taking an out of town plastic surgery break, and families. Highly recommended, you can't go wrong. Opens early, around 7am and closed by 3pm.
