“Nice place, no complaints”
Reviewed April 9, 2008

My wife and I spent two nights here the first week of April. The inn staff was friendly and accommodating. If you don't know where to go for lunch or dinner, just ask at the front desk. We requested and received an upstairs room after the first night. It wasn't the motel's fault, we just had a heavy walker above us.

The rooms were adequately appointed, if not a bit cramped, and the bathrooms were nicely updated. There was a microwave, coffee maker and small fridge in each room. The grounds of the inn are beautifully landscaped with many flowers and plants, and the patio area is a nice gathering space for guests. The inn is located on the main commercial avenue (Ocean), so it is very easy to walk to the many shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants of Carmel. The downhill walk to the beach to watch surfers or the sunset is also nice, though coming back uphill is more of a workout. Complimentary breakfast in the morning was also nice and filling. An assortment of pastries, bread, bagels, cereals, fruit, waffles, juice and coffee are available until 10 am.

If you've done any research into Carmel, you'll already know that parking can be difficult, though midweek we had no problem. The free lot at the inn has about 10 spaces (too few for the number of rooms) and a few more free spots line the street adjacent to the property. So nab a spot and walk if you can, or keep your eye open for one to open up then move.

All in all, the Comfort Inn was a pleasant spot to stay in Carmel. Not extravagant, not a dive, just a friendly motel-style inn with a few nice perks.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn with my husband and child at the end of January 2008 for three nights. It was the fourth year in a row I stayed there. The last two stays have been accompanied by changes each time. Last year, the bathroom was remodeled and a waffle maker was added in the breakfast room, and this year, the bedspreads, carpeting, and curtains were updated as well. There is wireless internet service available, and continental breakfast is included with the room rate. There is a microwave and a refrigerator with freezer compartment in each room. The Inn is uphill from most of the shops and restaurants of Ocean Avenue, but we felt the quality and affordability of the Inn was worth pushing the stroller uphill to get back to. The rate has been stable despite the recent upgrades. The owners say that in April, plasma TV's will be placed in each room. I hope the rate stays competitively affordable, because I have really enjoyed my stays there, but a plasma TV would not be worth paying more.

The Comfort Inn doesn't surprise. The rooms are basic - small, but clean. The front desk manager was a helpful and very pleasant young man. The staff (maids, gardeners) were all friendly. Although I didn't partake of the complimentary breakfast, it looked like you could certainly find what you wanted before the short walk to the business district of Carmel.

Carmel offers many rooms at this price range, some better, some much worse. A good value. You shouldn't be in your room much in Carmel anyways - so much to do!

This little spot in carmel is perfect for those who love Carmel. It's just a block from everything...from the Ocean Avenue shops to "Bruno's" market across the street, you can enjoy Carmel on foot. The prices are right and if you prefer the upper class style hotels...get the suites, there are two of them and they are absolutly wonderful.

We stayed here for one night before visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The grounds are nicely done, but the room was old and rather shabby. It didn't look or feel clean because of this. The bathroom looked as though it had been recently upgraded, so maybe they intend to do the same with the walls, doors, carpets, etc. sometime soon. Parking is limited. You may have to park on the street, which is limited as well. The front desk staff was very friendly and accomodating. The continental breakfast was adequate, but the milk for the cereal was sour. We were also charged $1.50 for a safe we didn't use. For $140 (tax included), we expected better.

We were more than happy with our room (#50). It was a bit small, but very comfortable. It was obvious the owners had done quite a bit to update - especially the bathroom - new fixtures, tile, etc. The flowers on the patio and in flowers boxes were absolutely beautiful! It was a very short walking distance to shopping & restaurants, and for the money, a very good value! The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. We didn't get a breakfast basket as other patrons had described, but they served a full continental breakfast in the lobby, complete with waffles! There are two rooms upstairs with their own balconies - more expensive, of course, but very roomy.

  • Liked — The grounds were beautiful - easy access to shopping, beach
  • Disliked — The bedspread was outdated

We stayed for one night on Saturday, May 5th. We were in Room 67 with a king size bed, microwave and refridgerator on the second floor. The room was very small but seemed recently renovated, especially the bathroom. The room was a bit stuffy (as it didn't seem particularly safe to keep the windows open at night). The screen on one window was broken. The front desk folks were friendly and parking (although a bit tight in the small lot) seemed available both occasions we looked for parking. Very pretty facade on the outside with flowers. Overall, not bad at $152.00 (AAA Rate) booked with 3 days notice in a very pricey area. Location is great as others have mentioned. I will also agree with previous reviews that breakfast was meager by Comfort Inn standards. On a positive note, dinner at the Rio Grill was fabulous!
