“An unexpected pleasure”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

An established, local favorite; very pleasant atmosphere – with a southwestern feel -- in a small shopping village on the south edge of Carmel; great, unhurried service; casual dress; moderate pricing; diverse offerings of “California Cuisine,” well-prepared; casual dining; full liquor service with a bar; ample parking; recommended

Joe V, General Manager at Rio Grill, responded to this review, October 26, 2012
Hi Gloria,
I am a little perplexed by your post about coming to the Rio Grill and having a bottle of house wine and 2 appetizers for $75. Our house wine is $6 a glass or $24 a bottle and our most expensive appetizer is the trio of ceviche for $14.95. Even with two ceviches and the wine the most your tab cold have been was $57.81 (including tax). (Most of our appetizers are in the $8 to $10 range).
Please feel free to contact me as i would love to talk to you about this.

“Best Food in Carmel”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We ate here after it was recommended by The Carmel Mission Inn. We were a little uneasy as usually most restaurants recommended by a hotel are just ok. Our dinner was fabulous with excellent service and very tasty food. Hats off to the chef!

“Wish I could dine here more”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

My husband and I dined at about 6:30pm last night with a reservation. It wasn't too busy at that time. Probably because it was a Wednesday night. Our server was great. Very friendly and attentive. The GM even came to our table to introduce himself!
We started off with a crabcake small bite (literally) and the empanadas. Both were on par in taste. For my main dish, I ordered the pumpkin seed-crusted salmon and it was amazing! (I learned that it was the 2nd most popular menu item.) My husband got the Dr.Pepper braised short rib and he licked the plate! Not ready to leave, we ordered desert. The chocolate torte I could eat everyday! My husband got an ice cream sandwich that looked good and was quite popular.
I'd definitely go back and try everything on the menu!

“Rio Grill for a catered group”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

Rio Grill has side rooms usually reserved for catered groups and parties. We were a group of about 40, with a special menu created for us by the very talented chef. The food was absolutely delicious with the flavors of New Mexico. Our dinner included a duck tamale with mole sauce, a perfectly cooked filet of salmon encrusted with a poblano pesto crust, We were treated to slow smoked beef tenderloin with pozole gratin. (I am a big pozole fan now.) Dessert did not disappoint with a piece of flourless chocolate torte and agave pistachio ice cream. Yum! Unfortunately I don't think any of these dishes are on the regular menu, but if you need a catered menu for a large group, the chef is very creative. We found the wait staff to be right on top of everything.
