“Great food and atmosphere, expensive wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2011

Reserving a table was an efficient process and our table was ready on time. The manager, Alexis Thomas, was a model of efficiency throughout the evening, keeping things running smoothly and lending a helping hand where necessary.
Our food was great! I had a skirt steak, done to perfection and delicious, while my wife had the pasta dish and raved about it.We also had the sorbet desert, again very good. Entre dishes ranged from $19 to $27, about average for the area. Service was very good.
Wine, however, is expensive! Two house wines by the glass were a plonk Merlot for $6 and a Malbec for $9. Where it really got expensive, however, was by the bottle, or, in our case, the half-bottle. A half-bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was $29, a wine we drink regularly at $12/full bottle, retail!

“Excellent everything!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2011

We were staying near-by and walked to the Rio Grill for dinner. It was busy, we didn't have a reservation and were seated right away. Having worked in the restaurant business for about 20 years, in a previous life, I think I'm a pretty good judge. To sum up: Waiter-excellent, Food-excellent, Atmosphere-excellent, Fellow diners-excellent. There was just a positive 'vibe' to the whole experience.

“Good food, good value, friendly atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2010

We went back again, after a visit last March, when we found the food quality a bit uneven. This time we were not disappointed...the food was great! I had the pork tenderloin and my wife had the pork shank , both very tender and delicious.
Service was friendly and efficient ; our waiter offered us knowledgeable and good advice. Near the end of the meal, while he was clearing the table for desert, he inadvertently knocked over the dregs of my wine, which he replaced with a half-glass of wine superior to that he had spilled, a nice touch!
Noise level was reasonable, we could converse easily.

“Best Artichoke Anywhere - and at a surprisingly good price.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2010

This was a return visit for us - and I knew before hand that I would be ordering the fire roasted artichoke. It did not disappoint. The decor - from the caricatures of famous guests in the bar to the armadillo, mosaic Kachina and giant corn cob - is light hearted but classy.
The service was great, and the bar tender greeted us warmly and called a good bye to us as we left. All in all - a wonderful experience.

“After a harrowing experience on a dark...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2010

After a harrowing experience on a dark, foggy and rainy Hwy 1, we pulled into Rio Grill 10 minutes before they were supposed to close and got great and friendly service, a delicious Crispy Pork Shank and half rack of ribs, and as long as we needed to cool our nerves before heading back out. While a little high-end for our usual taste, I would gladly pay again to have that same meal. Don't know what the other reviewers were seeing, but we had a great time. (by the way, for other lonely planet travelers, Nacemiento-Fergusson Dr. is not a legit short cut. It's about 28 miles of butt-clenching, cliff hugging driving high above the water. Not a great way to get to Hwy 101.)
