“Great, innovative food”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

Had a birthday dinner for my wife here - the owner brought out the ukulele to sing happy birthday to her at the table ... mortifying and yet pretty fun.
The food was exquisite - i had the curry soup - wonderful, then we shared the sea bass - almond encrusted - absolutely delicious.
Highly recommended!!

“Gourmet Dining”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

We loved the intricacy of the wood booths with a feeling that they had been shopped over from Japan. Then we got to the food!
My husband had fish cooked in paper with fragrant mushrooms and cabbage -- it was terrific. I ordered the halibut presented over mashed potatoes and it was right out of a gourmet magazine! It's a must-have experience. A woman across the aisle from us had abalone. Next time I'm ordering that. I don't think you can get that in many places and it looked wonderful too…….

“The food is excellent”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local working in one of the tasting rooms. We tried to go on a Sunday but they were booked until 8:30pm, so we went back Monday night.

The seafood dishes are excellent and prepared wonderfully. Both of our fish dishes were cooked perfectly. I had the halibut with the fermented black beans, and my wife had the yin/yang salmon (fresh, wild, local salmon).

My only gripe was the ambiance. The place looks "dimly lit nice". However, the seating (faux tetame room) is not very comfortable, and if you need to use the restroom you'll see part of the "tender underbelly" of the restaurant. They could do better there.

Worth checking out for the food though.

“There’s more to fine dining then the taste of the food”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

Everything tasted good; one could easily tell that fresh ingredients were used.

The fried calamari appetizer with panko tasted very good but could have had a crisper and hotter crust. The black bean halibut tasted great and had a nice piece of fish, was very tender, and was on top of not only black beans but also bok choy which really picked up the ginger flavor. The scallop and prawns tasted fine but the scallops were disappointingly wet and not carmelized and the prawns were small and a little tough which was probably the result of overcooking. The sides were all OK. I expected the warm banana sundae would include fried bananas with a nice crust but was disappointed about the crust. The taste was very good.

The wine list has some good choices at very reasonable prices (a bottle of a famous Russian River chardonnay was only $40).

None of the food was plated well, no fancy dishes, no drizzled sauces, ... Also, at their prices I expect linen tablecloths and nice flatware and was again disappointed.

The decors is a little less than ideal and it was quite stuffy. I decided it was better not to look too closely at the apparently dirty Shag carpeting below each table.

At their prices, I can find other restaurants in Carmel that are much nicer with just as good food even if I have to pay a little extra for the wine.
