“A great little place for dinner!!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Found this place for our group of 9 and everyone was quite satisfied. This restaraunt was very casual and very california. While the menu is not extensive, there is something for everyone and it was just an extremely pleasant dinner. Met the owners of the restaurant as we were leaving and had a nice little chat with them. Another place that I will visit again next time I am in town.

“Excellent”

Great, interesting. Food. Fish with an Asian flair. Fair pricing and wines by the glass were priced fairly also. Small place, we counted 15 tables, so it feels very intimate. Service was excellent.

“Still as good as ever”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

This has been my favorite place to eat in Carmel for years. The Asian-insired seafood is just the best. The seabass with wok-fried shrimp and bok choy is fabulous. Their unusual and delicious "ginger salsa" served with crispy won-ton chips is fairly legendary in the area and is addictive. Terrific place!

“If you like fish, you have to try this!”
Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

The wife and I had spent the day traveling cross country and arrived in Carmel late on a Thursday afternoon. We had researched a number of restaurants that we would like to try during the coming week and The Flying Fish was at the top of our list. We decided to have an early dinner so walked in around 5:30. We were greeted by an extremely tall gentleman who asked if we had a reservation. We said no and he asked if we were hungry. Naturally we said yes and he replied with "you have a reservation". Even though it was early, over half of the tables were already filled. The wait staff was extremely efficient and we never seemed to wait more than a few minutes before someone checked in with us. While the majority of the dishes on the menu are seafood, most have an Asian preparation. We started with the Ahi Tuna for a shared appetizer. The tuna was fresh and had great flavor. We were already glad that we had chosen this restaurant to start the vacation off, but the best was yet to come. I selected the black bean halibut prepared in parchment and the wife had the almond-crusted SeaBass. Both were excellent and the portions were neither too little nor too much. We finished the dinner by sharing the warm banana sundea. The flavor was fantastic and it was almost too big for the two of us to finish, but we found a way. This is an amazing restaurant and one that should be on the top of your list when visiting Carmel, unless you don't like fish.

“Didn't meet my expectations”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

I was really looking to take our friends to a great seafood restaurant in Carmel. Flying Fish was a disappointment. My Ahi was served with a sauce that tasted like vinegar. Friend's Salmon was dry. Tuna Tartar mediocre. Curry rice okay. Hosts were lovely and service was good. Bench seating uncomfortable. Much better seafood at La Biceclette and at Mission Ranch.
