“Fantastic Service, Amazing Room”
Reviewed June 8, 2008

The Tradewinds hotel was a unique find. We had booked in another hotel and were very unhappy with the room. So we started looking around Carmel to find a nicer place to stay. After looking at 3 or 4 properties, we found the Tradewinds. The room was spectacular, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for exploring the area. We stayed two nights and plan to stay there whenever we go back to Carmel.

We stayed at this lovely stylish place over the weekend for a total of 3 nights. We decided to go at the last minute, and we were pleasantly surprised to find rooms available. We stayed in Room 10, which had one king size bed and private balcony which turned out to be a good choice as we had our 6 month puppy with us (yes, they are pet friendly). The accommodation is very nice, well appointed, clean, has good bedding, and several other features you will be pleased with. The property is situated in a quiet neighborhood (hardly any traffic), and yet fairly close to the beach and Ocean Avenue shops. The staff was courteous, friendly and really helpful. We will definitely consider going back ...

loved this place. its clear they have put a lot of thought into creating a relaxing luxurious ambiance, and also recruiting staff who are genuinely friendly and enthusiastic about the place and ensuring your stay is enjoyable. very comfortable and stylish room and bathroom, with great attention to details. excellent staff. the layout and architecture actually really suits the zen garden vibe they have created in the courtyard. fairly expensive but worth it. also, we booked through Opodo and for some reason it enabled us to circumvent the annoying 2-night minimum booking at weekends rule that is prevalent in Carmel.

We spent 3 nights at the Tradewinds and really enjoyed our stay. We went to Carmel to go hiking near Big Sur and it was a pleasure to come back to the hotel at the end of the day.
We had booked a room with an ocean view, and were lucky to get room #20 which has a private balcony with a view on the mountain range and the ocean.
We saw room #19 next to ours, which seems to be the room with the best view in this category.
The lower category (which cost $100 less), rooms have a view on the parking lot and looked a lot less welcoming.
The hotel is located in the center of Carmel, close to the beach and restaurants. The hotel has a parking lot ( at no extra charge).
The room was very clean, comfortable and decorated with taste and feng shui. We even had our own little fountain.
The bathroom was also very clean and had a large jacuzzi bath tub. The bathroom was generously stocked everyday with Aveda products.
A self service continental breakfast was included and offered fresh fruits, cereals, rolls, bagels and breads.
We had a very pleasant stay but I don't think we would have enjoyed it as much if we had stayed in a lower category room.

We stayed for one night on our honeymoon. Our room was lovely--very comfortable king size bed, and nice furnishings in the room. The bathroom had both a tub and separate shower (which leaked a bit on t.he floor due to a small gap between the glass door and the wall). We found a plate of huge strawberries dipped in white and milk chocolate on a chocolate laced plate, in addition to bottled water and packages of dried appricots and pretzels, in our room. Nice touch.

We arrived at 9pm, and was told by the woman at the front desk that most restaurants in Carmel were closed by then, but she made several phone calls and was able to find a restaurant that would still serve us at the "late hour." Breakfast the next morning was great--a selection of juice, coffee, tea, fresh cut up and whole fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, pastries, toast, jam, cream cheese, peanut butter, etc. was more than enough to satisfy our hunger after a morning run on the beautiful nearby beach (a 10 minute jog away). The view from the patio was only a few tall grasses to block the neighbouring building, but you can't have everything. Overall, a very pleasant stay. We found an internet rate of $225 per night, which they honoured when I called to book directly.

After speaking with the receptionist today, I would never give my money to this place. Im not the type to write reviews or to complain. I usually let things go, but I was stunned with her poor customer service. She acted like I was wasting her time. I even heard her whisper to someone "oh my god" after one of my questions. I dont think I was asking too many, even if I was. For heaven's sake she works at a B&B where its all about customer service. What a shame, my husband and I really wanted to celebrate our 10th anniversary there.

First night had horrible loud neighbors above us. They went on all night. Could not get a hold of anyone at desk. Moved second night. But walls way too thin. And I think there should be a way to get a hold of someone at the hotel when there is a problem.
