“Good value for the room”
Reviewed September 17, 2007

We recently stayed at the Carmel Inn and Suites, there was 4 of us and we got the suite that can hold 4 people. We felt for the money it was a decent value. Carmel is very expensive and overpriced on a lot of things, especially hotels. This was an affordable room, that was cute, cozy and comfortable. A new owner has taken over recently, I believe since June 2007 and I would recommend giving them a chance. We were happy with our room, we did hear some traffic on the street, but a lot of the popular hotels in Carmel are on the same street and I imagine they can hear the traffic also. It wasn't loud enough to affect our sleep. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Carmel Inn and Suites for two nights. We found the room to be very quaint and comfortable and enjoyed our stay. We were left with a terrible "taste in our mouth" when at checkout we were presented with a extra bill of $150 and accused having a dog in our room, which we absolutely didn't have! The clerk said she walked past our room twice and heard a small dog barking. It was our word against hers as I repeated over and over that we did not have a dog, but she insisted we did because she heard it. She said she would not reverse the charge, and when I told her I was going to call the police to straighten this out, she called the manager. He told her to go check our room to look for evidence, and of course she could find no dog when she looked. She left saying she would take the charge off, but returned about 5 minutes later saying she had talked to the owner again and he asked her to search our car! Can you believe this??? We were treated like criminals! She took the charge off, but I still don't think she was convinced that we didn't have a dog.

I expected more for the money, even in Carmel; but I was disappointed. Worn, uncomfortable furniture. Bad layout. Peeling wallpaper, torn carpet, heating system inoperative. Paper thin walls made everything loud. Low-budget and weak continental breakfast. Unhelpful service. It may have been "AAA 3-Diamond" at one point, but years of skimping on maintenance and service has made this place a 1-Diamond..

My husband and I inquired about staying one night at this inn while we were passing through the Monterey/Carmel area. The person working at the front desk was rude and obviously didn't want to rent a room to us for one night, ranting about how we just walked in and expected to get a room for one night . (I had the impression that he was the owner or manager.) He finally offered us a small room with a queen size bed that was against the wall for an outrageous price. After this we looked at several other inns in the same area, none of which took any issue with the fact that we walked in and were interested in only one night. We selected the Carmel Sands Lodge, which had a much better and bigger room for almost half the price -- I would highly recommend it. The staff is very friendly and actually appreciates your business -- unlike the Carmel Inn & Suites.

They say you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, but this modest little motel has been turned into a very pleasant "boutique" inn with great charm and more than a modicum of comfort.
Rooms have an Old World feel with lots of antiques and chintz. Bathrooms are small but nicely updated.
The Continental breakfast was basic but included a fresh fruit cup during our visit in Aug. 2006.
Location couldn't be better. Good value for money in the heart of pricey Carmel.

My husband and I stayed at the Carmel Inn & Suites on the 19th of February. We came up to Carmel for dinner and we decided to stay overnight. We had an easy time to check in. You could see the ocean from the window in our room.. It is a quaint hotel and very nice. The only downfall is the shower. When you had the shower on the water got all over the floor. But my husband and I had a wonderful experience and we are planning on making a yearly excursion to this hotel.

No major problems. Isn't that nice overall, but less expensive than other options. Wouldn't stay here again however.
