Carmel Inn & Suites

My husband and I stayed at the Carmel Inn & Suites on the 19th of February. We came up to Carmel for dinner and we decided to stay overnight. We had an easy time to check in. You could see the ocean from the window in our room.. It is a quaint hotel and very nice. The only downfall is the shower. When you had the shower on the water got all over the floor. But my husband and I had a wonderful experience and we are planning on making a yearly excursion to this hotel.

No major problems. Isn't that nice overall, but less expensive than other options. Wouldn't stay here again however.

This place gives off a Bed and Breakfast feel with the cutesy "antiques" and cozy decor--it succeeds to some degree, but is somehow lacking overall. Must agree with some of the other reviewers about the street noise--you don't expect it in Carmel, and it detracts from the whole experience. Also, the male owner really is needlessly brusque, and isn't interested in fixing problems when they occur. This alone is reason enough not to stay here--I mean honestly, who needs this when they're on vacation? With so many choices in Carmel, I can't really recommend this place.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of August. We had a lovely second floor room at a most reasonble rate for Carmel ($109/night). We found the owners' dog to be charming, but we're, admittedly, "dog people". The down sides to the place were the location and the continental breakfast. The street (Junipero) was quite noisy, at least for Carmel. The second night we were there, some police dog training or demonstrations were going on at the police station next door. That was a very noisy experience until they left at 11:00. After we checked out the breakfast the first morning there, we decided the bagels and breads did not look at all calorie worthy and we went to the bakery down the street.

Stayed here with my family July 2003 for 1 night on a touring holiday.
We arrived without a booking and were recommended to Chateau de Carmel by another hotel. The man on the desk who may have been the owner was polite and helpful and our room was excellent with a kitchenette and really comfortable sofa bed for the kids. We really enjoyed our stay here and all wished it had been for longer. When we left, the same man at the desk was most helpful with directions for our long drive to Los Angeles that day. Would definitely stay there again.

When we first moved to the area we spent two weeks at the Chateau. The service was excellent, the room was spacious and comfortable and the location was great. One must keep in mind that this is Carmel, CA, everything here is expensive to being with, so the rates at the Chateau are quite reasonable. As for rooms being musty etc. again keep in mind the climate here, in the summer we are socked in by fog and it is damp and musty everywhere on the Monterey Peninsula.

We found the sheets on their beds to be so soft and comfortable that we actually found out where they got them from and ordered several sets for our home.

When we have acquaintances and some family who come to visit and want to spend a night or two in town, we recommend the Chateau. Everyone whom we have recommended it to has enjoyed their stay.

We had a perfectly lovely night's stay here at the Chateau de Carmel.
It is located in the heart of Carmel's shopping district, and the restaurant across the street is excellent. Unlike other's who found the staff rude, we did not. We found them extremely cordial and quite helpful. Our room was charmingly decorated, and we were left with shampoo's, body lotions, and coffee for the AM. The bruch was more than adequate, and there was PLENTY to eat! Cereals, juices, coffee, tea, danish, bagels and toast. Yes, the gentlemen running the hotel has his Jack Russel in the lobby area, however, the dog is not sleeping on the bed that I might potentially use! I wouldn't stay in a place that allowed pets, and I believe they have the right and privelege to restrict pets. I would surely stay here again. It's an excellent value for the money.
