“AMAZING!!”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

If you are in or near Carmel, you MUST visit Refuge for at least some time...it is truly wonderful. I have spent a lot of time at mineral baths so I did miss the mineral aspect of the pools but I got over it in no time. It is truly beautiful, spotless, wonderful, magical and I didn't want to leave but knew I needed to be able to drive myself back to my hotel. I went on a Friday night because I was thinking it would be quite and I was right...there were approx. 8 of us there which was perfect. I heard from the staff that they have had up to 150 at one time...glad I wasn't there THAT day. I can't say enough about the fire pits, zero gravity chair room, sparkling pools...amazing.

I have only one issue/suggestion for the owners...American's are not known for being healthy and fit and your robe selection needs to reflect that. I am 6'4, 250 and when the front desk handed me a robe and I confirmed with the woman that she pulled the right size for me and it would fit, her response was that a 6'7, 350 pound man could wear it last week so the L/XL that she gave me with certainly fit...she was crazy, lying or both. The sleeves were nearly at my elbows and I could hardly keep it closed. When it was closed and tied it was uncomfortably tight. Take it from a guy who spends a great deal of time in spas and who used to weight 310, a tight and uncomfortable robe that doesn't fit at a spa makes you only feel fat, yucky, on display and all you keep thinking about is getting out of this damn robe that doesn't fit and leaving this place never to return. L/XL is your largest size for full grown American men...really, that is not acceptable. Robes come in XXL - XXXXL, I suggest you purchase some for your larger guests so they can be comfortable and so they will return.

“What a Treat”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Found the pamphlet for the Refuge in our Carmel-by- the- Sea B&B. We decided to try something totally different (we are"old folks") and we absolutely loved it. Could not beat the price for the experience. They have a "code of silence" and it makes the experience special. We did the "cycle" and enjoyed the hot pools afterwards. A wonderful adjunct to a great get away. P.S. Next time I will include the massage!

“Enjoy a relaxing day”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

A friend and I decided to take a day to relax. This was a fantastic place to do just that. For $39 you can spend as much time as you want and do just that! We were fortunate that when we went there were only 3 other people in the large facility. They have a silence policy that a lot of people really enjoy. It was nice that we could talk quietly since no one was around. You cannot stay too long since they have a water only policy and no food whatsoever. There are no in and out privileges either. This is good. We spent about 3 hours there. We decided to do a massage also which is very reasonably priced. The weather was nice so it was great sitting out relaxing in the sun. I can recommend this facility.
