It was my friend's birthday, and we were looking for a special place. We have several old favorites in Carmel, PG, but decided on Le St. Tropez. We walked around Carmel looking at menus, and decided this was a good choice. We skipped the prixe fixed menu although it looked like a bargain.. We made a reservation for later that evening for one of the booths. The interior is decorated with cheerful table cloths with yellow sunflowers and blues just like in Provence. We started the evening with a delicious Champagne Cocktail ($9.5). They brought out a crudities plate with olives, beets, hummus and grilled eggplant with a nice selection of breads. I had a green salad ($9.5) with goat cheese, small julienne vegetables, walnuts, and diced beets. My friend had onion soup, "the best in Carmel". It was loaded with cheese and he said was delicious. The wine list was impressive as far as I was concerned because they had a generous selections of wines in the $20-$35 range. We settled on a Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley ($30). My friend had pork loin ($26), and I had the duck ($30). My duck was delicious with a crusty exterior, generous portions, and liquor infused cherries. Very nice! We finish with an apple tart & coffee. Definitely a find for a special occasion. We'll be back!

We were walking around and stumble upon this place and as we were looking at the menu posted outside and commenting on the menu, the owner (Chef Jean Hubert) overheard us and came over and he is so amicable and down to earth explanation of the dishes woo us into the restaurant. Not long after we sat down, we quickly realized that we made the perfect decision. Food’s good. Very nice atmosphere. Service wonderful. And most of all the owner/chef very friendly.

We came upon this restaurant "by accident". We were staying in Pacific Grove with our teen sons and wanted to have dinner in Carmel one night. I did a search and came upon a site offering discounts and "deals" to certain restaurants. This one had an offer for a free souffle or a Prixe Fix. We decided to try it and we are delighted we did. There were so many delicious things to choose from . Even the Prixe fix was a good deal. But in the end the boys didnt want appetizers and I really wanted a Manhattan instead of wine so we all just ordered. The chicken was amazing and my husband is still talking about his veal. It might have been his favorite meal of our entire trip. The waitress was delightful and the owner (or manager) was completely charming. The decor makes you feel as if you are in Provence. This place should have been packed but it seemed that the Italian restauranats were way more crowded. If we are lucky enough to go back to Carmel then this will be our first stop for dinner. The atmosphere is casual and inviting but the food is haute cuisine. Even the salads are works of art

Almost stumbled (through sheer tiredness) into this restaurant. Greeted warmly at the door by the owner, a Lyon-trained chef with a certain flair for crepe-suzettes made at the table. The meals we ordered were all fantastic and we appreciated the time that all the staff took with the children. One of those restaurants that you know you are destined to return to.

The second we stepped into Le St Tropez it was like we were in France. Love the whole atmosphere, decorated like Provence, very quaint. Relaxing. Kid friendly. Pleasant staff. Food hot. Good service. Not too loud, yet not too quiet. Come as you are dressed...casual or dress up. Excellent stop for lunch or supper!
