“Delicious dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

We came for the seasonal special of soft shell crabs. We consider these a real treat. They were on the daily special as an appetizer, but were made available to us as a dinner. They were just delicious, with a lovely presentation. We shared a salad as the portions were large, and also a dessert - the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream which was rich and creamy. I think people are excited when they come here and seemed to be enjoying themselves which made the noise level a little louder with all of the lively conversations going on. The atmosphere is inviting, like a living room, and we faced the window where we could see a lovely sunset. The only suggestion I would make for the restaurant is to have the specials written, as it is so many to listen to, and how can one remember what all the waiter said?

“It's A Fine Line”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

Last night's dinner had many more hits than misses, but... This restaurant is favored by locsl Baby Boomer who are apt to enjoy one of the many specialty cocktails, rather than fine wine. The noise level, especially on a busy Saturday night can make cross table conversation a challenge. There is a fine line between a wait staff allowing diners to have a leisurely meal and feeling as though you are being neglected. We felt neglected! The menu included soft shell crab, which can be secured either as an appetizer or main course. This seasonal specialty was wonderful. The special salmon was wonderfully prepared and oh so fresh. Christopher's has an awesome cornbread chili rellano, stuffed with shrimp. Also ordered and enjoyed was the lamb shank. Perfectly prepared, and accompanied by fresh vegetables and polenta. The wine list is small, but well rounded. Greut sparking wine and Silvestrini Syrah were great.

“Good food and great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

We made reservations for an early supper (5pm) and enjoyed our meal, desert, drinks, without having to feel rush. The service was great and we used a Groupon which was a big saver. The restaurant have a good seleciton of wines and a Chile relleno as an appetizer.

“Somewhat Disappointing.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013

Having read some very complimentary reviews, this restaurant was lacking compared to the others we experienced in Carmel. While the room is nicely done, with its two levels & nicely spaced tables, the noise level was quite high despite a carpeted floor (and by 7 p.m. it was fairly full). The service was fine, but the overly long list of the day's 'specials' was a little over the top. My Mom did enjoy her sliced duck breast & accompanying risotto & vegetables, all nicely cooked according to her. My starter was listed as 'Tequila & Lime House-Cured Salmon'. I honestly couldn't taste either tequila or lime on the rather tough slices of salmon (one of which tasted exceedingly strong & 'fishy' while the other two were slightly more tender & mild). They were almost obscured under a large mound of arugula (which was great, but it wasn't billed as an arugula salad) topped by a somewhat overcooked lacy potato 'cake'. My entree was one of the specials - fresh linguini with pieces of beef, sun dried tomatoes & cheese. Our waiter likened it to 'beef stroganoff'. The pasta itself was fine, and the beef pieces were very tender, but the sauce was heavy & without a discernible sun dried tomato flavour. The wine list might be good, but their selection available by the glass was decidedly not. Mom's Pinot Noir was very nice, but I found the recommended Cabernet to be definitely less than stellar for the premium price. And okay, this is picky, but this was the only restaurant we ate at that didn't have natural sugar cubes to sweeten their espresso.I have to say I much preferred our other dining choices here.
