We stayed at the Highlands Inn in Sept. 2003 for our honeymoon, and enjoyed it very much. Restaurants both wonderful. Beautiful views.
Excellent service. Rooms small, but that was not a problem. Fireplaces are great. Very romantic place. Point Lobos park nearby was beautiful.
We definitely hope to stay there again some day.

What a beautiful place! The service was outstanding. We called for extra wood for the fireplace about 10x over a weekend and each time was pleasant and "no problem". The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The view was spectacular! Pacific's Edge Restaurant is world class albeit a bit pricey. The more modest California Market is great.
This is THE place to stay in Carmel!

Before staying at the very expensive Carmel Highland Inn, please visit and/or research the property.

We stayed in a mini-suite at the Highland Inn which was no more than a small hotel room. The electric heat did not work so we had to keep the firplace going, which is probably why the room smelled like a campfire.
The small balcony overlooked the ocean, which was a nice view, but...
the extreme noise from Highway 1 kept us from going outside or even opening the door the the outside. It would have been nice to open the dorr and the bad smell in the room was intorelable.

Our first night at the Highland Inn we were informed that reservations were not available in the dinning room. Saturday night, just prior to sunset, we headed to the bar to view the spectacular views only to discover a hugh corporate X-mas party. So, we couldn't get into the bar, the lounge area, the dining area or the common areas as it was inundated with corporate types. We decided to go the Monterey warf for dinner, which was nice. However, being from Morgan Hill, I could have saved $600.00 and stayed at home, which is much nicer than the Highland Inn.

So in summary, we spent $600.00+ for our stay at the Carmel Highland Inn and did all we could to stay away from the place during our stay.

My husband & I have stayed here many times over the last ten years, and we never get tired of it. It is the only place we have ever found where we were truly able to relax. We don't like to lay on the beach, so this place is perfect for us. You can go for a hike during the day, come back to your room, have a massage in your room, turn on the spa, light the fireplace, and settle back for a relaxing soak with a glass of wine. The views are spectacular. You can just sit on your deck with a glass of wine, cheese & crackers and a good book and just enjoy the sights, sounds and wonderful smells of the wood burning on a cool night. Can you tell I love this place?!
