“Lovely room, breakfast included, great location”
Reviewed March 30, 2007

I stayed here for 2 days in March (Tuesday and Wednesday). Groundfloor room, huge really comfortable bed (the best of the 5 hotels I stayed in on this trip). Large room, with fire. Small outside space for sitting out/breakfast etc. Separate dressing room and bathroom hidden in what from the outside looks like a closet - both good size with good lighting. The room I had had a connecting door to the next door room so I gues it would be good for family groups. Large TV - not that I watched it. Coffee making facilities. 'Continental' breakfast delivered to your room between 8am and 9.30am - pot of coffee or tea, OJ and pastry. Great location, a couple of blocks uphill to centre of Carmel (about 2 minutes) and about 5 min walk downhill to Carmel's beautiful sandy beach. If I have a negative it would be that in the bathroom there were a few cracked tiles which detracted from the overall high standards. Loved Lobos Lodge - not the cheapest place in Carmel but worth it.

My wife and I stayed at Lobos Lodge for 2 nights last week and found it to be a great value. We booked the room directly with the hotel and got a rate of $130 or so. The room was clean and very spacious. It was well appointed, neither luxurious nor tacky. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful with restaurant recommendations.

The hotel's location is terrific, right in the middle of the cute Carmel downtown, an easy walk from shops, cafes, and restaurants, and about 4 blocks from the beach. (Beach proximity is a particular plus, since the parking situation down there was bleak just before sunset.)

They deliver breakfast to the door each morning, which we liked. Breakfast itself was pretty good -- homemade (?) muffin one morning, and home-baked croissant (out of a can?) the other. The coffee was poor -- we had to go out for better coffee after breakfast -- but then again, we're picky.

All in all, we'd recommend Lobos Lodge highly. It's certainly not a luxury hotel, but it's a great value, and no disappointments.

Los Lobos was exactly as described by the reviewers below. The room, including the bathroom, was extremely spacious and clean (although it was a bit musty-smelling). If you are traveling with kids, you could definitely fit an air mattress or cot in there with room to spare. You get breakfast (muffins, juice, coffee, newspaper) delivered to your room in the morning, which is a nice touch. Excellent location right in the heart of Carmel. The down side is that it is noisy if you are on a lower floor. You hear your neighbor's TV, talking, walking, sneezing, etc. etc. Also, room 24 (which we were in) is pretty close to the street. For one night, it was fine, but for an extended stay, I'd book a more expensive room for a higher floor.
Los Lobos is not luxurious but more than adequate for one night on a drive down the coast.

  • Liked — Huge and generally clean room.
  • Disliked — Musty odor; you hear your neighbors.
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't stay in a lower-level floor; don't stay in room 24 if you value quiet.

We have just returned from a one month stay travelling around California (with a short detour to Vegas!). Having stayed in 10 hotels across the course of the trip we both felt this was one of the best. We researched everything heavily on trip advisor before going and the reviews were all great.
The Lobos Lodge is in a great location - 4 blocks (although they are bigger blocks than in cities!!) from the sea, but right in walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. The reception staff were really helpful and friendly and the room - despite being on the basement / ground floor level and the cheapest price range was amazing - as someone said in an earlier review - more like a suite than a room.
The complimentary breakfast was lovely (and we discovered incredibly rare in the US!) - straight to the room at a pre-arranged time and the best Blueberry muffins I have ever tasted - still warm and fresh. Yum!!
I find it hard to believe anyone can complain about this hotel, as we genuinely had a great stay - as I say one of the best of the trip. In fact, our stay here was so great, we were seriously disappointed when we arrived in San Francisco at the Handlery hotel, which I really wouldn't recommend.
We really liked Carmel too, I'm not sure what previous reviewers were complaining about. We met some really lovely people in stores - especially the great lady in the post office who helped us out. No one seemed snobby at all - but then we didn't really bother to go into any of the ritzy galleries. Window shopping was definitely enough.

  • Liked — size of room, complimentary breakfast, friendly, helpful and efficient staff
  • Disliked — the walls were a bit thin and noise did travel a little - but it was a minor issue

We are frequent visitors to Carmel and discovered the Lobos Lodge through tripadvisor.com. Although the exterior is not eye-catching, the rooms are large and well-arranged. The furnishings are not fancy but very adequate and comfortable. The staff was wonderful and the location great for visiting Carmel. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet our room was, even though we were right in the middle of the town. It is a great value. Breakfast was brought to our room each morning and parking was plentiful and easy. We will definitely return to the Lobos Lodge.

What a great lodge and a great place! Location couldn't be better...just about 3 blocks from the ocean. No swimming, but what a beautiful sight! Service was superb...turn-down service and breakfast in the room from some of the nicest and most accommodating staff, I've seen at a hotel. The continental breakfast was a, true, delight! Real china and personal thermoses of hot coffee, plus fabulous pastries! The grounds are beautiful, with gorgeous flowers and plants! Location was perfect for perusing beautiful Carmel, by foot. The room was, most, accommodating and spotless...very comfy bed and "living area." It might be a bit small, but, absolutely, perfect! I cannot say enough for the staff. Someone complained about the rooms being a bit stuffy, when I checked in, but if that's the only complaint, no problem. You don't need air-conditioning in Carmel, and the hotel does provide a fan, if necessary. You'd, really, have to be looking for a problem, to complain, here. I never wanted to leave, and I travel, extensively! It's, truly, a wonderful place to stay! 'Can't wait 'till I can return!

  • Disliked — You'd have to be looking to complain!

Spent 3 nights while playing a week-end golf tournament. Location is great, a few blocks from the beach and on the main street. Our room was very large but on the bottom floor. It seemed to have a lysol type smeel when we checked in, which my wife did not like and the furniture and carpet are pretty dated. The bathroom was spacious and the gas fireplace a nice touch. The bed was comfortable. The complimentary continental breakfast is not served until 8 a.m. so we missed it two days. Our TV was the smallest I've seen in a while, probally 19 or 21 inches. You could not see it from the bed. The price is a real plus but I thought the rooms were just average.
