Not sure I'd rave highly about this hotel. I have no issue with the comfort of the bed, the cleanliness, the nice breakfast, the generous size of the room, the nice fireplace, pleasant staff, WiFi, etc. However, we felt that it was just okay; nice, but not super luxurious or a place that we'll always remember. Nothing wrong, but we've stayed in much more notable premium places for the same price.

The bathroom and vanity areas seemed to have been inexpensively constructed and therefore dated. Our room at the inn would be inaccessible to someone who can't climb stairs, or lug their own bags up a flight. There wasn't any view ti speak of but then it seemed no views are to be had in general in Carmel, since private home owners command the sea front properties.

Room Tip: ask for second floor if you don't mind stairs, it seems one on the first floor would be dark

The location was perfect. Park the car and you have all of Carmel at your footsteps. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Our room was on the second floor and had a tremendous vaulted ceiling. The added Breakfast and the wine/cheese reception were excellent. Our only commentary to the negative would be that the rooms showed a touch of age and could use some updating. Minor adjustments to the room (bathroom fixtures, wallpaper, etc). The lobby could also use a bit of a upgrade. Overall I would recommend and stay again.

Room Tip: 2nd floor.

A spacious room, Wonderful staff, Great breakfast, Great location... All in all it was great. We would absolutely return to the Carriage House on the next trip. The only down side was a personal preference. The bed was too soft and the pillows were all way too large.

We stayed at the Carriage House Inn in April. We had a great room and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect. We parked our car and never drove it until we left. The Inn is within walking distance of great shopping and fine restaurants. The wine & cheese time was well prepared and most generous. The breakfast was beyond our expectations. The Front Office staff was so friendly and professional. We loved our stay and will return again & again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the inn!

This hotel met all our expectations and was a great base for our adventures in Carmel and beyond. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We had a second floor room with a vaulted ceiling and the largest (tall) king bed I have ever seen! The hotel is a small (14 rooms), semi-updated, older hotel and there were some minor cosmetic and maintenance issues in our room. The hotel provides an expanded continental breakfast that is delivered to your room at a time you choose. This breakfast includes warm quiche and other cold breakfast options. Very nice to have it in the room as we began our day. Good added value as breakfast out would have been very pricey. They also provide a wine and cheese happy hour for guests. We would return if we were ever back in Carmel.

This place is AWESOME, and it is all due to Misty in the front office. She was the icing on the cake, getting this place from four stars to five. She made sure everything in the room worked, that we understand how to light the fireplace and find what we need, and even pointed out all the complementary stuff in the room - no nickle-and-diming like in chain hotels. When we got back to our room at the end of the day, quiet music was on and the fireplace was going. We spent part of the evening talking with the other guests, drinking free wine and eating free cheese. And all through the afternoon, Misty had fresh-baked cookies. Can't beat any of that with a stick!

The bed was comfortable, and the room cute. If there was any complaint, it was that the wi-fi was so slow in our room, but we were there to see Carmel, not read email. I highly recommend this place!

We stayed here in 2012 and were pleased at the time, so wondered if there had been any changes. We found the the front desk was "manned" by Misty, who was, as usual, very quick and helpful. She also accompanies you to your room and advises on the gas fireplace, TV, etc.and sets up and hosts the excellent late afternoon wine and snacks in the reception lounge.
Our bedroom was very nice, clean, quiet and well furnished, including a fridge, coffee maker and hot water boiler. The bathroom is fine but no rail or shelf to hang or set things.
The WiFi was very slow in the morning and evening.
There were a couple of maintenance issues.....very slow-running basin and curtain rods no longer attached to the curtains. There was also a wall outlet that needed replacing. The morning shift lady at the front desk organizes the breakfast and brings it to you. She also set to work remedying the maintenance issues.
Breakfast is ordered the night before and brought to your door at the appointed time. It was very nice continental-style.

Room Tip: Try upper level, rooms quieter.
