Reviewed May 25, 2011

We just returned from three wonderful days in Carmel. The Sandpiper Inn is just two blocks from the ocean in a lovely quiet neighborhood. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The breakfasts were yummy. The Sandpiper Inn is somewhere a small hotel and a B & B. Met other nice guests form Switzerland, England and of course California. We will stay there again,!

We had a great view from our windows. (We were in room number 7.) Hearing the ocean from our windows at night was very restful. A very nice breakfast was served each morning in the parlor. We would definitely stay again our next visit to Carmel.

This is our 4th stay at the Sand Piper inn and have had a great time each stay!! The service and food (great breakfast) is fantastic every time (real home feeling) The rooms have been recently updated, they look fresh and clean. The people there are very friendly and ready to help and make your stay as comfortable as possible. The only thing that was a on the negative side was the bed we slept in this time. The mattress was very uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. This was the only negative thing on a stay full of positives. We love this place and will continue to stay there when we visit Carmel once again. I would recommend the Sand Piper inn!!

For about 15 years, I have made an annual visit to Carmel and stayed at the Sandpiper. The Sandpiper feels like home to me...it is quiet, safe and comfortable. i particularly like staying in the garden cottage with its skylight, view of the tiny garden and the sound of the surf and smell of fresh air from the open window. The hosts are wonderful about making certain i have what i need. I enjoy taking a cup of tea and a pocket full of fruit and pastries and strolling along the beach in the morning. i tried other lodgings in Carmel until i found the Sandpiper and am very happy there. I look forward to this year's visit in April.

Room Tip: the rooms are all comfortable; not elegant.

Between the proximity to the beach and the lovely cottage style rooms, this place was perfect. Sandpiper Inn allows for easy travel to Big Sur where hiking is a must and also up north to 17-mile drive which is a beautiful drive up and down the coast. With only a 5 minute walk from the beach this place is a must stay! In addition, the granola they serve for breakfast is to die for.

This was our first time staying at the Sandpiper, and it was pretty awesome. The Location is literally one block from the ocean; you can hear the waves at night which was pretty cool, the staff will even lend you flashlights if you want to venture for a night walk on the beach. The only knock I can say about the location is that it is a little bit away from restaurants and nightlife, so driving is a must because the walk (which we tried the first night) is nice, I mean you are at the beach but you are walking through established neighborhoods and it takes about 20-30 minutes to make it to the downtown area for food and entertainment. Also, Carmel itself and the downtown area are a bit pricey, so the restaurants downtown are a bit trendy/uppity, so we would drive into Monterey (about 15 minute drive) for food and entertainment it was just a little more laid back there. The Inn itself is great. The Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. You get old style keys to your room and the common areas which I found pretty cool. The room we stayed in was near prefect, perfect size for a couple looking to relax; no TV, no phone, and no distractions. We even had our own entrance into the garden area which was very nice. The way it is set up you have unbelievable amount of privacy. The room was very clean, and nicely decorated if it weren’t for the little soaps you wouldn’t even know you were in a hotel it was that homey. The towels and robes (yup you get robes) they give you are wonderful, large, very soft and comfortable nothing like your usual hotel towels. The one knock on the room we had (not sure if all rooms are the same as they are individualized) is the bathroom is a tad small and doesn’t really have a door more like a sliding partition, so you have to be REAL comfortable with your partner if you stay there as you will know when one is on the toilet if you get what I mean, no secrets. I’m sorry I didn’t take pics of the room, it slipped my mind but overall the room and the Sandpiper are fantastic just too many positives to list and definitely worth the stay (we paid about 280 for Friday and Saturday) if you just want to relax and get away.

My boyfriend and I stayed here just one night in September on a road trip but are already plotting to go back. We arrived late, and the desk clerk was still waiting up for us. He made sure we were well situated and also well fed, recommending a lovely little pub in the middle of town for dinner. The cottage room was spotless, cozy, and well-decorated. When staying here, keep in mind that it's a B&B, so the rooms are in keeping with that. It's not a fancy hotel, but it's more than adequate. And the little garden out back between the main house and the cottages is just charming.

The absolute best part of our brief stay was the friendly manager, whose name we never got. She chatted with us throughout breakfast, which included fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, milk, juice, coffee, tea -- and always a warm pastry, which for our breakfast was a choice of ham & cheese or veggie quiche. Oh, the quiche! Homemade and wonderfully tasty!

The location is great if you want peace & quiet, just one block from the beach, but it's about a 20-minute walk to the main street of Carmel-by-the-Sea, so be aware of that. Otherwise, do stay here! It's a great value!
