“Very pretty hotel, great location, great for dogs”
Reviewed August 4, 2014

This is a pretty historic hotel right in downtown Carmel. Its a great location, very easy to get to shops and restaurants. The off site parking is a block or two away. If there isn't space in that lot, you have to find on street parking which seemed a bit difficult.

The service was outstanding from all hotel employees we encountered.

The hotel is very charming.

Our room was quite small - but I think that's just due to the time the hotel was built. Its not a modern hotel. One problems was that we had a first floor room that opened to an alley on one side, and the street on the other. There is no air conditioning, so we had to leave our windows open, and it was VERY loud in the room from street noise. I didn't really have a great night's sleep. Nothing that the hotel did, its just the way the room was situation/time of year requiring open windows.

The breakfast was really good. They had homemade popovers, delicious almost croissants, nice jam, great coffee, etc.

They allow dogs on the property and provide a blanket so the dog doesn't sit directly on the furniture, and also gave us a dog bowl to use.

I would stay here again, but ask for a different room next time.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that open to the street.

We have stayed her twice, both times in a lovely room on the ground floor along the brick patio. Service is excellent and friendly, rooms are very nice - not really luxurious, but very, very comfortable. There is a lovely terrace for casual gatherings or just a drink, and the breakfast that is included in the stay is very pleasant. The location is excellent - right downtown and close to everything.

I love this hotel with or without my dogs. The location is great. The staff is super friendly. And the rooms are comfortable. I have stayed in both the old and the new part of the hotel. Some rooms ca be on the smaller side, but the beds are comfortable. There is a wonderful breakfast in the morning which can be eaten in the restaurant or the front living room. In the afternoon/evening you can enjoy a bite to eat or cocktail in the courtyard (with a fireplace) or in the front areas. It is very homey feeling.

Room Tip: rooms facing the front of the hotel are brighter, but get a little street noise. Carmel noise, not N...

You know from the outset when booking this hotel that is has as much quaint charms as the town of Carmel itself - even down to the canine focus. This didn't detract from a nice hotel though which proved a good base to explore.

I love this hotel not only because of the great location but the staff is excellent . My husband and I stay here at least once a year in the fall. The accommodations I think are very nice for a hotel that was originally built in the 1920's. Of course it has been remodeled since then, but you still have that sense of history about you. The hotel is dog friendly but if you don't bring your dog along there is usually one that will enjoy some extra attention from a new friend. I really enjoy Terry's for breakfast and then an evening glass of wine or afternoon tea in the beautiful living room across from the front desk. All in all this hotel is gem in the middle of downtown Carmel!

This gem in Carmel can give you the true feel of the Carmel life. Carmel is a very dog friendly city and Cypress Inn allows dogs in the rooms and have a dog friendly happy hour at the bar Terry's. Price can be steep on important weekends but the rooms are a comfortable size.

We arrived in the evening and got a warm welcome. Very friendly front office at all times. We were four people and probably got one of the smallest and not a good situated room. It was no 107 and was just on top of the stairs with a tiny bathroom and a wall as view. Nevertheless the hotel has charm and soul. The gym is tiny but I could do what I came there for. The hotel has a lot of dogs and I like dogs, but it is a bit too much when you can't get to your room because six dogowners and their dogs are blocking the way and do not make a move to let you through.... The breakfast was a disappointment. Very bad selection of food, bread etc. and very much unhealthy stuff. I guess that's just American. The hotel is perfectly located to everything Carmel has to offer.
