This Hotel was a little expensive and the room was small, but the Service is great, the buffet breakfast was wonderful, the Hotel lovely, also a great location. We ate out two nights and then on our last night we ate in the Hotel and that was the best meal we had.

Loved this locals hot spot, owned by Doris Day. We took our dog, we're able to sit inside and had an awesome meal & drinks - great atmosphere with local flare. Service was great and everyone was very friendly and accommodating with pets. We will for sure be back time and time again.

Room Tip: Room 114 seems to be a great one.

This lovely property is the grande dame of Carmel. The ambiance, building and grounds are maintained so beautifully even with all of the people and their pets. We love to take our dog there and sit out in the courtyard by the fireplace or in the great room by the fireplace, with those wonderfully carved beamed ceilings and listen to the soothing sounds of the musicians on the weekends. We've even stayed there with out our dog - there's just no place like it. It's location is prime and the meals are delicious. BEST almond croissant in the world. Doris Day and Denny Le Vett deserve kudos and surely take credit for this treasure!

Room Tip: Room 217 with the balcony to the west

This is indeed a unique place. We've never stayed in any place quite like it previously. Lots of dogs around but no smell of dogs which was a huge relief. Very friendly and the room was very comfortable, although very small. Was noisy at night as our room was close to the entrance to the lobby and bar area. We really liked it here - very cosy and welcoming with a nice informal lounge area for guests. Lots of quirky little touches which made it special.

This is a very unique Inn where you can enjoy your vacation with your pet! You can literally bring your dog to dinner! The Inn is very quaint, small and intimate. The inside is jut OK... But it has a lovely courtyard area with dining and a beautiful fireplace. That was where we spent most of our time at the Inn. Our room choice was not great. We stayed in the Tower suite which sounded amazing when we saw it online but definitely fell short once we checked in. It was the most expensive suite at the Inn, we booked it for two reasons 1. The promised ocean view
2. We were three people plus our little dog and needed the space... A king bed and a pull out couch.
Here's what we got... It is a strange two level suite with a dark lower level with terra cotta floor. The air conditioner did not work effectively and there were no windows so it was always warm and stuffy despite the cool temps in Carmel. There was a small narrow staircase to the upper bedroom which was sweet enough with pretty wrap around windows that opened for a great breeze. However...only one bathroom which is on the lower level...you would not want to navigate that staircase in the middle of the night... Not for seniors or anyone who needs frequent trips to the bathroom at night...! Save the money and get a regular room... Much better value. I was also surprised that an inn that charged us well over $400 a night for that room also charged us an addition 30$ a night for our 3lb dog to stay. I understand in a regular hotel but this establishment highly markets itself as "dog friendly". That didn't feel dog friendly to me! We have stayed many places with our dog due to its small size and had the fee waived! The value was not there for us but I am sure had we stayed in a much less expensive room, we may have felt differently. The restaurant served wonderful food, every meal was amazing!
I don't think we would stay there again but we still had a good time as Carmel is really beautiful and we LOVED the vibe there.

If you are traveling with your dog you must stop here for lunch at Terry's lounge, even if you don't stay the night in one of the nicely retro rooms. I had a crab and watercress sandwich that was divine, and loved the dogs who come with their owners and behaved very well. This mission-style faux mansion edifice is calm and civilized and the staff are accommodating and pleasant, stepping over terriers, Aussie shepherds and pugs to serve your food with a smile. This is a good place to meet people, as pets are an easy conversation starter. Room rates are fairly high, but altogether this is an unusually pleasant place to stay or eat while in Carmel by the Sea.

Room Tip: Tell the reservationist that you want a quiet room away from public areas and they will advise you.

Yes, this place is dog friendly - that's great when you're sitting in the bar but not great when you're trying to sleep and ten dogs are barking like crazy in the lobby. For the price I was disappointed on many levels

The valet greeted me by asking if I needed to use the restroom - since my boyfriend had I guess he assumed I did as well? How odd that was. My response was no that I needed to check in. Our room as barely large enough for the queen bed with a small bath area. No closet but did have an chest which we didn't bother to use. The lobby was close to our room (just around the corner and down a few steps) and the noise from everyone enjoying their drinks and dogs was annoying. Don't get me wrong I love animals but not barking until 11pm after a long day of travelling.

Dinner at the bar was way overpriced for three tiny crab cakes (literally a bite each) for $14 - silly. Breakfast the next morning was good but not great.
