“Great staff at lovely hotel”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

This is a really cozy hotel with great staff, located in the center of the charming town of Carmel by the Sea.

We drove along PCH1 and when passing Carmel we thought it would be a nice halt. We found Cypress Inn on Tripadvisor and stopped by to look at vacant rooms. We settled on a great, quite affordable corner room with an elegant fireplace and a nice king size bed. We were treated very well by the professional staff who provided service above and beyond expectations.

We didn't have lunch or dinner here, but the breakfast was great for being continental with good selection of fresh food. This hotel seems to be well-known for welcoming animals, but it's really nice for guest without animals as well.

We loved our stay at the Cypress Inn, the staff are friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was great and we enjoyed cocktails in Terry's Lounge. Our room was small but charming, very clean and well maintained. I'm a dog lover but didn't bring my dog and I still loved all the dogs of many sizes in the hotel. It's wonderful that the Cypress Inn allows big dogs and small dogs and for the most part they were all very well behaved. One thing to note is that with all the dogs at the hotel, this hotel does not smell of dog at all. The property is very clean, well maintained and in a great location. I'd definitely stay here again.

I live on the Central Coast and have heard that Cypress Inn is pet friendly and has an afternoon Tea. So for my daughter's birthday I made reservations and we brought our dogs.. Perhaps my expectations were of something on the line that the whole restaurant is set up for afternoon tea with table cloths and the dogs would be treated to a doggie tea biscuit or something. When we got there for our 2pm reservation, it was a beautiful day in Carmel and shown to a patio table with an an umbrella in their cute courtyard.

I also envisioned a 3 or 4 tiered plate with sandwiches and teacakes, We were served a tray each with the tea sandwiches (so-so) petit fours (delicious), cream & jam for miniature scone and the teapot on the tray.

While we were having tea, others in the courtyard were enjoying afternoon martinis and club sandwiches...this kinda took aware from the high tea experience. Also we were served the trays immediately but the bread was a little hard like they had made these trays up earlier.

So part of my disappointment is that I was expecting a little more of a formal tea with treats for our dogs. For $18 a piece...the club sandwich looked a lot better...

We had a lovely overnight with our own well behaved dogs and it was a love fest. The room was beautiful (we opted for a deluxe king-the standard rooms are pretty small but much less expensive) and we had our meals at the hotel so we could dine with our pets. Our puppy is learning to socialize well and had many excellent role models of well trained dogs. Since the dogs had frolicked on the Carmel beach that afternoon, we all slept well.

Room Tip: The deluxe king with entrance on the street was great. Might be noisy if you wanted to sleep in on...

I was so impressed by our reception at this Hotel. Kahli Whipple who is the Front Office Manager, was so amazing at filling us in on Doris Day who is a partner in this Hotel. Gotta love Doris Day who is doing well at 89. She is a partner in a hotel & huge in Animal Rescue He happy and helpful personality was refreshing. My aoplogies to her co worker who was working Sunday AM the 10th of June who was also very helpful & friendly as well but I forgot to ask her name. They both filled us in on the past of the Inn & Doris Days involvement with Animal Rescue (http://www.ddal.org) and her partners love of animals. Its a dog friendly hotel, where you can stay with your dog & have them beside you in the restaurant area as well. I watched a couple come in & sit down with their retriever Chuck, when the waiter sat them down, he brough chuck a doggie dish of water first which I thought was really neat. It has a nice patio bar & inside restaurant too and is in the heart of Carmel by the Sea, a short walking distance to main street.

Room Tip: Call ahead & speak to Kahli or the other staff & ask them what rooms are available for your...

My wife and I stopped here for some wine with some friends. The bar/lounge area is very quaint and quiet. We did not stay here or eat here.

We had a great stay at the Cypress Inn and couldn't fault our time here - from check in through to departure the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is beautiful, old fashioned in the best way with a real old school charm. The Doris Day decor is fabulous and the bar/dining area is goregously decorated. The best bit of our stay was the afternoon tea in the sunny garden - a perfect way to spend an afternoon. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Carmel.
