While in Carmel on our Honeymoon, my wife and I strolled by Dametra's and browsed the menu. While doing this, Faisal (sp?) the owner walked out and told us all about his restaurant and himself and asked us if we would like to eat there. After wandering around Carmel for the day we decided Dametra's looked as good as any other place and we were right. For an appetizer we ordered the Hummus which was excellent. It was creamy but not over-flowing with olive oil. My wife had the Greek Salad with grilled salmon for her entree. Again, excellent. The salmon was cooked just right and none of the flavors over-powered the others making for a delightful dish. I ordered the shrimp and crab ravioli in a pesto cream sauce. It was magnificent! I'm not a big fan of cream sauces but my love of pesto won out over my dislike for cream sauces. The sauce was very flavorful and not heavy at all. The pasta was not drowned in it either, there was just enough making a well-balanced dish. We were given a free baclava dessert which was excellent as well. The owner was genuinely nice and really seemed to care what we thought of his place. It was absolutely wonderful.

We visited this small restaurant on a recent visit to Carmel, and were very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. The owner was very friendly and presented us with a free baklava as we were finishing up our meal. We will definitely return.

We owe much to TripAdvisor for our great weekend. We feasted at three of TripAdvisor's highest rated Carmel/Monterey restaurants but this was the best of three very good restaurants.

Dametra Cafe was as good as its great reviews indicated. The food was as good (and I think was even better) as the other two highly rated restaurants where we ate during our trip and the other two were far more expensive.

Dametra Cafe's friendly staff, cheerful themed interior design, delicious food, exceptional service and reasonable prices add up to the best restaurant experience of three during our two day stay.

We were made to feel welcome, provided swift service but never felt any pressure to order or leave quickly, were provided great tasting food. It was packed with other customers who seemed to be having as good of a time as we did. I look forward to returning.

What makes Dametra's so special and worth a visit:

1. The food is exquisite! You would be hard-pressed to find Mediterranean cuisine prepared any more delicious ANYWHERE in the world. Honestly.
2. Customers are treated with such warmth, openness and respect, so unfamiliar in our American, fast-paced, profit directed culture. Faisal, the co-owner broods over his customers like they were family. It is not uncommon for him to provide your table a free glass of wine or a bowl of delicious Dametra humus to make you feel wanted and appreciated. While the food alone would merit a high rating, the EXPERIENCE of dining at Dametra is one to be savored and remembered.
3. The restaurant is small and intimate (but not cramped) and unpretentious. Personally, I find this a much more comfortable dining environment.
4. The prices are so reasonable and unpretentious in themselves -- you will feel like you received MORE than your money's worth.
